Eyeglasses & Rides?

My DD always uses a croakie. Hers broke at DHS but one of the gift shops sold Disney ones. Not too cute but it worked. She does not want to lose her glasses and ruin her trip so the strap is so worth it.

I have glasses and contacts. During the day, I usually wear my contacts so that I can wear sunglasses outside but my eyes don't really get along with my contacts in the dark (lights tend to stream, so smaller light effects look strange). I went back to do a few "dark" rides with light features with my glasses on and I had no problems with Space Mountain or 7DMT with them. I also had them on for ToT with no issue and RnR, which was mostly fine, though the beginning of the ride made me a liiittle nervous!

I would say a neck strap isn't a bad idea, though as others have said, prescription glasses are usually pretty well fit, and don't tend to fall of so easily, still, the neck strap is a cheap bit of insurance.

The place that we had the most trouble with eye glasses when my son was young was at 3D shows. He was never comfortable wearing the 3D glasses over his prescription glasses, so he always took off the prescription glasses, and was not great about handing them to his mother or I, because of course, he could handle it on his own. Inevitably, they got left behind in the theater. Thought Disney is pretty good at recovering such things, we did wind up having to replace glasses twice before he outgrew that.

We got rubber ear grabbers from Amazon just wear your glasses as normal they will not go anywhere and no straps to worry about. We used them on rocken rollercoaster and they never budged

My husband always wore an elastic strap (he found it for sale at Animal Kingdom) when he went on rides like ToT, RnRC, and never had a problem. And he really does need his glasses to see.

I wear my glasses on all rides. They fit well though and don't budge if I move my head around.

I did have one moment of panic on Everest though (just happened once) -- the spouse had his arms up, the track went around a bend and flung him my way. His arm bumped the side of my face, my glasses half-popped off, and I mashed them back onto my face.

My husband lost his prescription eye glasses on BTMRR several years ago! He had his hands in the air enjoying the ride and somehow one of his arms bounced against the side of his face enough and they flew off!! So yes, we take off all glasses for rides like this for now on. That was an expensive lesson learned. The CM's did look for his glasses, once the park closed and the ride shut down, but no such luck.

I agree with wearing Croakies as insurance. His glasses may be fine on rides, but what if they aren’t? For me, it was a small investment so I wouldn’t have to worry about it. I use them on EE and RNRC and put them on in line. I used to take my glasses off on RNRC, but couldn’t see anything. If your son has dark hair, most people will never notice them.

While I don't wear prescription glasses, I lost two pairs of sunglasses on Disney World coasters last year. First pair I had hanging on my shirt when we rode Big Thunder Mountain, something I've done pretty much every time I've ridden it, and never had a problem. Well, last year Big Thunder ate those. Lesson learned I thought, good thing I had a second pair with me just in case. Two days later, we were riding 7D mine train during EMM, and I was smarter, so I put my sun glasses in the cargo pocket of my shorts, and buttoned it shut. It worked, I didn't lose them . . . .but they came out in pieces. Sometimes you aren't meant to win lol. Now I have a neck strap for the new sun glasses I bought from Disney :)
