Eyebrow beauty(?)-? about

I've never done anything with my eyebrows (that's why I didn't even know how to title this post). How many others haven't? Is that really unusual for an adult woman? I'm thinking I'd like to do something that might make my eyes more "open", especially at my age (53). I'm kinda hoping that my eyes may look a little younger. But I don't even know where to begin. Do it myself? And if so, what do I do? Pluck? Buy wax? I'm not sure I'd know what to do with it. Go somewhere? Where? I don't have any female relatives to ask about this, so I have no where to begin. Can y'all give me some guidance, please?

I would recommend the first time you have them professionally waxed. That way an objective eye can find the best shape for you.

I usually have mine waxed around 2 times a year, and then I pluck them myself in between.

It really makes a huge difference!

I've plucked my eyebrows since I was a teen. The first time my mom did it for me and she went overboard. I would suggest going to a salon to have it done the first time so you get a good shape. When the strays start growing in you can pluck them yourself. It does hurt when you first start doing it, but after time you'll get used to it and it won't bother you at all.

I have mine professionally waxed several times a year. I have heavy brows and it makes all the difference--people always tell me I look younger or I've lost weight or I look rested.

Mine were always heavy and I finally tried having them waxed - I was very happy with the difference. However, they got "overwaxed" a time or two (tooooooooo thin!). The wax tech was an older woman who believed in the skinny next to nothing brows - right around the time that thick was coming back into vogue. Now I can't get them to grow back right. They grow back as a double brow - two lines with a space between them over each eye. Ugh. I've been trying and trying to get them to fill in. I have to use eyebrow powder to fill them in. So - I still recommend waxing, but make sure they don't go overboard.

ditto. i have thick dark brows so it really makes a big difference for me. my sister otoh has light thin brows so i don't know if she has ever had them done.

these days i just wax myself, but i DO NOT recommend that if it is your first time and you don't know what shape you want. if you screw it up everyone will notice.

I agree, have them professionally waxed, at least for the first time. I was anal about plucking them at first, but now I pluck once a week (unless it's a special occasion) in between waxings. I have mine waxed at the same time I get my hair cut, and my stylist only charges me $3 (which is very cheap!).

A funny story from yesterday. My best friend had her lip waxed yesterday for the first time, and came back to work afterwards talking about it. Another woman who lives in our office could not understand why someone would wax their lip. She asked "is it because your lips are chapped?" Yeah - it's like waxing your skis.

Another thing that I think is important to know if you do get them waxed...

Go straight home afterwards and don't make any immediate plans. There is a potential for your brows to get VERY red and puffy. You are going to want to go straight home and wait for them to calm down a bit.

I have mine done at a hair salon also. I am charged about $15.
