Eye glasses and rides/coasters???

My ds is 11y/o and wears glasses. Last summer at Busch Gardens he took them off when we went on the coasters. I dont want him to not be able to see all the cool stuff on the disney coasters though. Any suggestions?? I was thinking of some kind of strap or something?? He is thinking contacts... uh yeah ok he cant keep his room clean so no contacts yet!

I use a strap on any ride that is going to go upside down but otherwise I haven't had a problem. The first time I rode Rock N Roller Coaster I forgot the strap so I took my glasses off -- I was so dizzy and disoriented afterwards from the darkness/flourescent colors and not being able to focus on them. I don't have a problem with the ride if my glasses are on.

You should be able to get a starp for the galsses at any sporting goods store or department. They are used by many swimmers to hold the glasses on while in the water.

I wear glasses too and have had no problems on Disney attractions with my glasses coming off.

A couple years ago, my mother lost her glasses on RnRC. She actually forgot to take them off and didn't realize it until they flew off. I stayed at MGM until close and waited for them to sweep the floor to see what they could find. They actually found the frames but the glass was shattered. We all appreciated the effort though...

for our 11yo dd, we went to a local wholesale club and bought the "2 pair for $99" glasses just for the trip... she kept them on most of the time, but when she did not want to wear them i put them in my purse... she also used a croakies-like strap that we bought at wdw (they sell them at all the kiosks)... but because they were the "cheapies" and not her good glasses i did not worry about them... we just keep them around as back-up

I am a big roller coaster fan. I use the croakies mentioned above on all roller coasters that I ride. This includes all the Disney Coasters, Hershey Park, Kings Dominion/Kings Island, various Six Flags Parks, and Cedar Point (including Top Thrill Dragster). Some parks no longer allow you to ride with any type of glasses without some type of retaining strap. I find riding without my glasses to be disorienting and a little naueating. I have a pair of croakies for both my regular glasses and my sunglasses.

My DH wears contacts and tries to wear his glasses to the parks instead. A couple of years ago one of his contacts got washed out on Splash Mt., plus he can't wear contacts into the water parks.

I have lost a couple pair of sunglasses on rides, but I think it is because I'm not used to wearing glasses and forget they are on my head! Luckily most of the CM's are trained to remind you to take your sunglasses off before getting on the rides.

I think the sunglass straps described above would be your best bet.

i would go for the strap.

i've lost two pairs of sunglasses on dinosaur! had them on my head and forgot to put them in my bag and they flew off- so be careful on that one too

The strap things work nice but the glasses can still flip backwards on rare occasions.When I rode a motorcycle when there was no helmet laws (I know not very bright ) I had an extra clip that clipped to the strap and the back of my shirt so it they flew off they would still be attached.

But if you really don't want to have to worry get this done for him I picked this from a thread a few days ago .I want ti for DW so I don't have to hear where's my glasses at.

The straps are a good idea. Although I took my glasses off on every coaster, the ONLY ones my husband took his off for were RnR and EE. He left them on for every other coaster and ToT -- no problems. I am paranoid and slipped mine in my fanny pack but it isn't as much fun when you can't see!!! I would not even trust the strap on RnR -- that one just takes off too fast.

If you see people come back on the ride ahead of you with glasses, it usually means you can leave them on.

I was looking for something like Croakies for my perscription glasses. They were expensive, & very light, so I don't want them to fall off. Thanks for the link!

Another vote for Croakies here, I love them. DH and I both use them skiing, biking and at WDW. I bet once your son has a pair he will even use them at home!

If you have a Dicks or Models sporting goods they will usually have a pretty large assortment for him to choose from.

The croakies look good - I may look into that too. I only take my glasses off on Space Mountain because of the shaking around!!

One year I bought the cord-type string for my sunglasses (prescription), so I could hang them from my head rather than switch my glassess all the time when I went into a dark ride. However, carrying a toddler made them fall off and I never found them. I ended up getting the cover for my eyeglasses while at WDW. There's no walking around/being at a water park/pool without sunglassess!

I always wore my glasses when I was little. My sister always wore her glasses and my mom and my dad also always wear their glasses. No one has ever used anything to keep their glasses on their head except for their head. None of them have ever lost their glasses.

Wal Mart sells the "croakie" like bands for your glasses! For 3.99! I use them all the time never had any problems on any of the rides!

....However I do tlike the Croakie Floaters...never seen them before!

I don't know if this is an option for you or not...but my son has an extra pair of glasses and I am bringing them, just in case he loses his somewhere and we can't find them...or if they happen to get broke. We had to buy him two pairs cause we were so tired of having to run to the eye doctor to have the one pair fixed all the time. So when he breaks one pair we take it to be repaired while he wears the other ones.

I will be investing in Croakies though, thanks to whoever posted that...didn't even think about it till now...do they sell them at Dicks Sporting Goods??

Dh, dd and I all wear glasses. My dh is the only one who obsesses over losing his glasses at WDW. So, he puts one of those library lady type strings on his. Dd and I do carry the strings with us, but usually don't use them. But, they do add that extra bit of security. Using them is far better than worrying about losing your glasses. Use the straps and start enjoying the rides...especially EE...there is so much to see that you miss it all if you aren't wearing your glasses!!
We have used the Floatie Croakie things at the water parks...they are terrific.
