eye exam tomorrow

I'm dreading the question "How much time do you spend in front of a computer?". Between work and home, TOO MUCH! The last time I had my eyes check I couldn't focus on the chart and couldn't tell which views were better. My eyesight hasn't changed as much since the last visit as it between the last two.

I'm having for my first contact lense exam . Since I plan to switch to contacts (I hope there's no reason why I can't), I'm going to keep my current frames and spend the lesser amount to have the lenses replaced instead of wasting nearly $200 on a complete pair.

I have stainless steel frames that have a frameless bottom. They've been comfortable and only needed one or two adjustments since I got them a 1.5 years ago. They've withstanded a blow to the face by a soccer ball and only a chip of a lense resulted after crashing to the pavement when the neighbors puppy brushed past my face while I was holding him.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but you might have a rougher time with contacts than you think. I spend a lot of time in front of my PC at work and then at home and I find my eyes start to hurt when I wear my contacts. If I use my glasses, I have no problems.

Wearing contacts can cause your eyes to dry out faster than if you wore your glasses and staring at a monitor only worsens that effect.

Be sure to discuss this with your eye doctor.

I hated eye exams (before eye surgery) the Doctors would get mad at me because I could hardly read anything

Thanks for the warning. I already have wetting drops for this, but will keep this in mind.

I work with computers all day long... and for me, wearing contacts helps out because then I can wear my computer readers to fix my sticky focusing. If I were to wear glasses, I would have to wear bifocals, and at 33 I refuse to wear bifocals.

Just remember to rest your eyes and rewet it often and you should be fine

I just had an eye exam last week, thinking I was going to get contacts too. Then I found out I have 5 astigmatisms in my right eye. It was going to drive the expense of the contacts right up, having to correct the astigmatisms and with bifocals. Ugh! I was so mad when I got home because I wanted contacts really bad! Dh told me it would just be best to go back and pick out new frames, so I did. Still waiting for them to come in.

I just got my exam done last week as well. I could do contacts, but I am choosing not to.

My eyes are very large, so the last time I got contacts they were always falling out. My new eye doctor stated that due to size contact may not have been fitted properly.

I may get contacts eventually. I have no astigmatism, or spots. In fact, my vision went down! -- apparently my glasses were stronger than they needed to be.

But my husband has astigmatism, and the cost of contacts are higher than glasses, so he just wears glasses.

Exam went well. Only a slight change to my prescription and they ordered trial contacts for me. They had to order them because I a an irregular astigmatism in my right eye. If I'm comfortable with the trial, I think I'm going to get a pair of "computer glasses" to wear at work.

My frames are still in stock, so I can order new lenses when I'm ready.

I got my trial lenses tonight and I'm wearing them now. I feel so free (from my glasses) and no longer feel like I'm looking through a screen. Even though my eyeglasses had clear lenses, I always felt like I was hiding behind screen.

Any recommendations on contact lenses? Where to buy, brand, type?

The brand and type are decided by your doc. Every eye is different.....size, shape, special needs such as asthigmatism, etc. Every type of contact is different. Each brand will have different types. As far as where you should buy them...that is up to you. I buy mine from my opthalmologist. If there is a problem with one.....lens missing from a new container (happened to me twice)or torn, all I have to do is take it to her and she replaces it free of charge. Enjoy your lenses and remember to follow the wear and cleaning directions. You don't want a nasty eye infection.

I went to the eye doc yesterday too. I had RK surgery almost 10 years ago but have been back in glasses for 5 years. I cannot have LASIK due to the amount and types of cuts I have from the RK. UGH. Alot of my astigmatism which was corrected in surgery has returned. I am also becoming more and more farsighted. I used to be very nearsighted. I was told they only make one particular brand of contacts for the problems I have. Makes for fitting them difficult. I guess I will get another pair of glasses for now.

Talk to your doc...but definetly see if you can get disposable ones. Makes it much easier when you rip/tear one...then you have a back up right there.

I wear Accuvue 2 lenses...and have since they come out...they are 2-week disposable ones...but I'm horrible and wear them longer - until they are so dry they just pop out. heheh

I've worn contacts for...gosh...13 years now? Believe I got them first when I was 14. I only update my eye-glasses every OTHER year, cause I RARELY wear them (only at night, right before bed.) Also - I'm in front of a computer most of the day...never had a problem with my eyes drying out (and I HATE drops)

just be sure to follow what your doc says about getting your eyes used to the contacts...day 1, wear them for 2 hours, day 2 wear them for 3 hours, etc... work up to 8 or whatever. I wear my contacts more then 12 hours a day and have no issues.

my DH had lasik done 2 years ago...I'm so jealous! He sees perfectly now w/o his contacts.

I was given Renu lenses for the trail pair. I wore them 4 hours yesterday and 5 hours today. I hated putting my glasses back on this afternoon. The prescription in the contacts is better than that in my glasses, so I had to adjust to the slightly inferior view through them. Tomorrow I can wear the contacts for up to 7 hours and by Monday I'll be wearing them all day.
