Eye Brow Waxing - terrible job -Has this happended to you?

I've been told that most esthaticians won't do above the brow unless you request it. Most do a more natural brow. Mine actually won't wax, but will pluck above the brow if I ask.I have very crazy thick brows so mine need it. (my browline extends out to my hairline--nuts! I think my ancesters lived in the arctic area LOL)

The first and last time I got my eyebrows waxed was the day before my Senior Prom and 2 days before my sisters wedding. She kept putting the wax on and taking it off and I ended up with a long red scab where the hair used to be. It was horrible. I will never go again. The tweezers work fine for me!

Every waxing place I've been to gave me the fifth degree about being on prescription acne medication*. Frankly, I'd be concerned that they didn't ask your niece, and wonder about their procedures and if I should go there at all.
*Interestingly, I don't think this screening is done in non-acne aged people, as my mother is on retin-A for something else, and has never been screened when being waxed.

Thanks everyone for your help!

The things that we do for beauty! Although I work with a man that has a very smooth face (never any stuble). So, I think he is getting some type of "beauty treatment". :rolleyes1

I think many (all?) antibiotics can cause this reaction. I was considering using a nearby aesthetician recommended to me, and she specifically mentions not waxing if you are using antibiotics because it causes the skin to come off with the hair.

Yep, this happened to me...and I wasn't on any prescription or using any acne meds. I have no idea why...but the redness was hard and crusty the next day. Upon closer inspection, I realized my skin had come off with the hair. That was the first and last time I had my eyebrows waxed!

I've had this happen...I do my own eyebrows and it was because the wax was too hot.
Lesson learned on that one......

Sadly it was not my eyebrows but my upper lip. This area is extremely snesitve and I cannot stress enough to check the temperature on your own finger first!!!!!!!!

The wax was like water boiling hot and I still have a scar that only makeup conceals. Thats was in 1993! No joke ! This upscale spa was closed due to law suits. The owners poofed away no pixie dust there.

PLEASE always check the temperature first! I now do my own I think if I wsa on life support I would wake myslef up to self wax!!!!!

Like many posts before me, this happend to me once and man it was painful. Eventually all of the skin grew back and now it's like it never happened. My advice is to be patient and buy a bottle of Aloe, it's really great for burns and things of this nature. Sorry this happened, that sucks.

When it happens to me it is usually an allergic reaction to the lotion they put on me. After I have mine done I have to go home wash my brow area really well and apply neosporan. It's the only way I can look normal in a relatively short time.

I am begining to understand why so many are apprehensive about getting waxed. Where are the waxing educators??

I had my eyebrows waxed for the 1st time 3 days before my wedding. I have very sensitive skin.....let's just say my brows were bright red on my wedding day! I went to a salon for my wedding make-up and up-do and they said my skin was burned.....the wax was too hot. They helped disguise the redness....but I was so afraid to go anywhere else after that.

So, "unibrow" is not an alternative?
