it does hurt! but sooo worth it because it shapes your eyebrows SOOO nicely in a way waxing just cant! and i find it lasts longer too! and its cheaper! (at least around here - I pay 3 bucks!)

You're right, Vallie. A lot of people have said the same thing, that they feel the shape of threading makes the eyebrows look more clean and also more uniform. I had mine done today (not the first time). You can really see everybody's beautiful eyes so much clearer with threaded eyebrows. I have had mine waxed (my eyebrows, not my eyes ) many times as well, and I have never achieved that "perfect" shape with waxing.

I'd hardly call it trendy. It's been around for centuries in the middle east.

I always had my brows threaded in Egypt, but am too worried to go to the girl at the kiosk in our 'mall' in this place. I'm afraid she'll mess up my brows...
I may have to get over that.
It's so much better, and I don't think it hurts as much as eyebrow waxing.

I have been threaded for years! I use Retin-A occassionally and you cannot be waxed if you are using Retin-A.
I get threaded on my eyebrows, upper lip and chin area. I have blonde facial hair and lasers currently do not work on light hair.
The upper lip has nerves running through it that make that area very painful. I just take a couple aspirin or iboprofin before hand.
Another tip is to put aloe vera gel on your face if you have large areas threaded.

I've never had it done but my assumption is that everyone gets a new thread. I guess I would also assume when I have had my eyebrows waxed that they don't throw my wax back in an re-melt it for the next person.

I know they use new thread. But the way they anchor it as they're threading is by running the thread through their lips/mouth. How do you know if the person doing the threading doesn't have mouth sores or something?

Sorry but I don't know what you are talking about. The videos that I watched didn't show the thread in anyone's mouth. That would be gross and I can't imagine they could get away with that. Nobody would have it done, if that was the case.

I have it done all the time, to me the pain is just the same as It would be if I was getting waxed. Hurts no more no less, but with threading they really get the little tiny hairs!! and it seems to last longer. and no one has anything in there mouths!

They always anchored the end of the string in their mouths when I did it, but they don't use the end of the string to thread.

I guess I need to watch the youtube clips to figure out how people are doing this themselves! I'd be yanking out all sorts of eyebrow hair and probably eyelash hair, too.

The video that I watched showed the girl just tied the two ends together and made a knot. I don't know why you'd have to put it in your mouth like in the other video.

The way they run the thread back and forth, I just assumed it was like dental floss, where you use part of it, then thread further down to a clean part, so I assumed they were, at some point, using the part that was in their mouth. Sorry if I misunderstood the technique.

I've been doing this for years myself, at 2 different locations with 3 different technicians. The kiosk in the mall is run by an Indian family and the ladies there don't use their mouths to hold the thread, they do break the thread with their teeth but then they just wrap it around their fingers to do the actual threading. The gal at the spa did use her mouth to hold it, then she never used that end anywhere near my face, that was just the way she held it, the end was in her mouth, she a huge long piece and that was what she used on my face, she did use both hands as well so I'm not really sure what the mouth part was for. LOL No gross mouth germs came anywhere close to my face. Trust me, if they did I'd be up and outta there in a second! LOL Uneven brows and all! LOL

I just switched from waxing to threading. My waxing was $25 including tip (just eyebrows mind you), and I just couldn't afford it anymore. Getting the threading done takes less than 10 minutes and is $13 with tip. The first time I had it done I was almost crying it hurt so bad on my left eye. I think it was because the guy didn't know what the heck he was doing, because I just had it done again by someone else, and it wasn't nearly as painfull. Its kind of embarassing to have done in the middle of the mall, but not nearly as embarassing as the people who have their teeth whitened there!
