If the family who received a new house from EXHE decides to sell the house at a later date, do you feel that it's ok if they possibly profit from the sale? Would it matter the circumstances of why they are selling?

If they feel its in their best interst to move then that is their choice, the reason as to why doesn't matter, thats like saying if a person builds their own house, or buys a house they have to live there forever. Doesn't matter how a person receives a house, gift, donation, purchased on their own, rented, bartered, no one should be forced to live somewhere if they can't, don't want to live there any longer for any reason. And when selling a home making a profit is usually the goal of the end result. I doubt anyone would go into it hoping/wanting anyone to lose on a deal.

Maybe a family doesn't have all the kids living at home any longer, don't need such a large home any longer, so they want to downsize, sell the home, take the proceeds invest it in a new property that will fit their needs better and take the rest if any left over and put it towards their family's future?

Maybe the ability to maintain a home is too much for them for whatever reason, and they feel it be more responsible to sell the home, and let someone who is able to maintain it do so.

Maybe they are human and made mistakes and for financial reasons have to sell it. Whatever the reason they have to do what they feel is right for themselves and their families. Who are we to judge? and Why does it Matter?

As far as making a profit I would have to say I have no problem with that. The house price is set based upon what its worth and if they sell for a profit then so be it. Houses appreciate if they are taken care of. It would be no different than if my house was appraised for $50K more than I bought it and I it sold for the higher appraised value.
There are many reasons why those who received a gift of a new home must sell. Be it that they can't afford to live in it. The family has to relocated because of a job offer.

DH and I were talking about that once. I said why not? Then he brought up that there have been episodes where the mortgage co forgives a large chunk or all of the pre-existing debt on the home. I wonder how that would work, personal ethics aside..COULD they sell in that instance? I've often wondered how families do a couple years down the road. Can they afford the upkeep of a home 3X the size of what they previously had. And how about those in high crime areas, when everyone now knows there are high end appliances and 3 plasma screen televisions inside?

I wonder if anyone who thinks it's wrong for the family to sell at a profit, also thinks that "someone" (the show?) needs to make up the difference if the family is forced to sell at a loss.
