Extra towels

Hey all missy here.MY family and i are staying at a boardwalk studio and my mom was wondering why we only get one set a clean towels i understand being a dvc member there is no mousekeeping.But there our three of us staying in the studio and coming down the last week in june well we do plan on taking a few showers a day.I know i can add extra towels on to my room for six dollars but thats not the point.You think with all the money we put into dvc the can atleast give us so more than one set on towels.Well i guess we will see how it all turns out. Because it is your "Home Away from Home". Sort of like a vacation home. If it was a lake cottage or beach house you would be bringing your OWN towels. DVC will bring you 4 sets actually. If you are there 4 days, they will bring you a new set. You always have the option to order extra towels and pay for them.

You will have a "trash and towel" service on day 4 of your stay (Wed June 28th). So you will get a fresh set of towels part way through your stay. As you said, if you need more towels, you can get another set for $6.

Things like this are paid for by our dues. If they provided more towels to everybody then the dues would increase. I think most people manage with the towels that DVC provides by default and would prefer that the people who want more towels pay the extra cost rather than have it picked up by the rest of the members. Another option is to wash the ones you have. Since you will be in a studio, you won't have a washer and dryer in your room but you could take advantage of the free washers and dryers in the laundry room. You do have to pay for detergent ($1/box).

DVC is a "home away from home" so the mousekeeping services are different than what you would get in one of the Disney hotels. But when you work out your cost per point, you are getting your studio for much less than a room at the Boardwalk Inn would cost you.

It's a timeshare, not a hotel room. I don't know of a single timeshare, (Disney, Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott) that gives their guests fresh towels everyday.

If a Studio goes for about 11 points/night and dues are about $4.50, then you're looking at less than $50/night in maintenance fees for a room with a rack rate of more than $200. (and would have an additional 11.5% tax)

And, just how dirty does a towel get. Washing after just one use is really a waste and not environmental. At home do you wash your towels after a single use?

I agree that there should be flexibility, esp for the studios where it's not convenient to wash. But the reason for the policy is that people were abusing the options with towels, etc. And given the current set up, if they give you the extra towels, that means the other members are paying for your towels. And while DVC may be expensive, that does not mean you are automatically paying for the extra towels.

It's not that the towels need to be washed but when you have 4 people in a studio and four small bath towels, they are soaking wet after each use. I can tell you I am glad we brought our own towels last week because we were taking two showers a day each (2nd shower after swimming to get chlorine off) and morning towels were always still wet in the PM.

I think the real problem is finding a place to hang up all of the bath towels so that they dry thoroughly in time for the next shower. There are just never enough towel bars (not just in DVC but in any hotel room) to hang up all those damp bath towels!

how many towels will be in the room when ariving?

$6.00 covers how many more towels and how often

when will we get room service

You are staying 8 nights. You will get full housekeeping on Dec 19, Trash & Towel service on the 23rd.

Additonal towel packs (4 bath, 2 hand, 4 washcloths) are $6 for each set requested.

You may also get extra trash and towel days for $10 per service day requested.

When you arrive there should be enough towels to cover the official capacity of the room (4 for studios & 1 bedrooms, 8 for a 2 bedroom, 12 for a Grand Villa)

When we were at the BWV in August we inadvertantly brought a pool towel up to the room with us. When we discovered our mistake we legitimately meant to return the towel, but kept forgetting. At some point we just gave up trying to remember and actually made use of the towel in the room.

No one was complaining about stingy towel allocations before the pool towel misdemeanor, but after we decided to keep it, it was nice to have.

To add to Chuck's post, the towel pack is for a single set. They may replenish it on cleaning day or they may not. More likely they will take all the towels you have including the extras and then leave you the appropriate number for the unit. Of course you can throw them in the washer and have clean ones just as much as you want.

When we got to BWV last week, my friend asked me when the maid would be bringing fresh towels. She seemed a bit put out when I told her that we wouldn't be getting fresh towels for another 4 days. She told me she really needed a fresh facecloth each night. Since we were in a two bedroom villa, I certainly didn't need all the facecloths/hand towels I had, so I handed most of ours over to her. I can seem to get along with the same facecloth for a few days.
Then, when we went to the pool, she grabbed a stack of pool towels and proudly announced she was all set for a few days until fresh towels came. I did try to tell her she could have put the existing towels in the w/d but to no avail. I guess she was used to 6 star accomodations and BWV didn't meet these expectations. At home, I use the same towel for 3-4 days. I mean, come on now...you're supposed to be clean when you use it. If it's too damp, just throw it in the dryer.

Have to say...there is nothing like doing WDW with someone to find out all sorts of 'stuff' about them. Things you just wouldn't find other than being with them day in and day out!! She's a good friend...just has different expectations than I do.

We actually pack our trusty DVC canvas tote with extra towels and wash clothes from home along with laundry tabs & dryer sheets when we stay. So far we have never had to dive into our own stash, but we have it if needed. Also, for you ladies--I have started bringing along the Olay towelettes to wash my face in the evening to remove makeup. It saves a wash cloth.

I understand your concerns but Timeshares as stated are not going to supply daily towels. Which is why we love having a washer/dryer to wash them as needed and avoid the studios. If staying in a studio I would bring extras.

There is another option.

Don't get the room using DVC-Points but instead reserve it as a cash reservation through CRO.

With cash reservations you do get daily mousekeeping. Fresh towels every day, fresh soap, beds made up, room completely cleaned.

Of course, the downside is it'll cost you about $200/night.

We stayed in one bedrooms and I just took advantage of the washing machine and dryer.

This fall we stayed in a studio. I was very nervous about not having laundry in the room. I was so sure we'd run out of towels, sheets, etc.

At the front desk, at check in, I asked a million questions about housekeeping, getting extra trash/towel days, cost, etc. I was about to arrange all these extra trash/towel days, but then decided we'd see how it goes.

It went fine!!! We never did laundry. We never ran out of towels.

BUT, there was only two of us. And so we had two towels each and two wash clothes each. until the trash/towel days. I guess with three or four people it would be more challenging.

I guess it is also what you are used to. At home, I do towel laundry once a week. We each use the same towel pretty much all week. We do have a lot of extras...just in case. But rarely use them.

But I do get greedy and lazy on vacations...wanting fresh towels everyday. I'm a slob and just let the towels fall to the floor. "Oops. Well, no problem. Housekeeping will bring another."

With the DVC vacations, I just have to be more careful. Hang the towels up after using them.

I agree--I use my towels at home for 3-4 days before washing, so why can't I do that on vacation? I admit that I do use the dryer to dry my towels in Florida, but I don't find that daily towels are necessary.

And that friend that needed daily towels--next time let her provide them by paying cash for either the room or the towels. Wow, for someone who stayed in the room for free(I assume) she was being awfully demanding! Are you planning on inviting her in the future??
