My family could really use some extra good thoughts! We've been through a difficult time recently!
The minor stuff: We bought our house in July ( we had rented this house for 2 years before purchasing and had an inspection). We now have a leaky roof and a broken boiler (no heat!) which will cost a pretty penny.
The major: My eldest child recently spent 2 weeks in the hospital and is now being treated for a chronic illness. Many of the specialists in this area don't take insurance so we are paying cash and hoping insurance re-imburses something (obviously we're more worried about the illness than the $$$ but the $$$ is stressful, too). Having an I'll child has been hard on all of us - my younger 2 children are feeling quite neglected right now. Additionally, my DH and I were supposed to go on our 1st cruise to celebrate my 40th birthday (we were leaving NY on Saturday night for a Sunday cruise) and had to cancel due to our son's health. The cruise is non-refundable (I usually take out trip insurance but ths time I didn't - go figure). Again, my son comes first but we're so stressed out that we were really looking forward to a break. (My job has become much more stressful over the last 4 months and I used the thought of the cruise to eel me going!)
Today we got more bad news. Our beloved black lab, Buffy, has a tumor. We're hoping it's a benign tumor but we don't know. She'll have a biopsy next week and then we will find out if it's cancer or not. Regardless she will need surgery to unblock her intestines (it's a partial blockage and she seems well so we are hoping for good news!). Another necessary but pricey expense!
We are living in constant stress right now and would love any pixie dust and good luck!

Thank you!!!
Amanda

So sorry to hear that you are having so many and such serious things going on! I hope your son will be better soon and that all of the money woes sort themselves out quickly. I am sending lots of pixie dust and good thoughts your way. :goodvibes:goodvibespixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust::goodvibes:goodvibes

Positive thoughts to lift you and your family to deal with everything through this trying time.

I'm sorry everything is coming at you all at once. Any one of those would be a lot to stress about. Take care and know you have friends here.

Oh Amanda I am so sorry all these things are happening all at once. Your entire family is my thoughts and prayers.:grouphug:

Thank you everyone!
I forgot to mention that our minivan (with 95,000 miles on it) broke down this week, too. I thought it was a goner for sure but they are able to fix it for under $1000.
We managed to salvage a small part of our planned trip. Obviously we can't go on the cruise but we're going to fly down to Orlando on Saturday night and fly home on Monday night. We got a good rate at the Swan for 2 nights. I've never been to F&W and we're going to go to MNSSHP (for the 1st time) on Sunday night. We have APs and a TIW card. I figured we're spending the $$$ we would have spent on shore excursions, spa treatments, and alcohol from the cruise. My eldest will stay with my parents for the weekend so we don't have to worry about him (as much!) and they will drive him to school Monday morning. At least it's a small break for us.
Next week Buffy will have a biopsy and then surgery.

Sending positive thoughts and pixie dust your way for some quick and happy outcomes. :grouphug:

Please make sure that you take care of yourself at this time 'cause without enough sleep and decent nutrition you won't be able to handle the stress very well in the short term. But you know that already.

Prayers and Pixie Dust coming your way.

Prayers coming your way.

519th VH Pixie Dusters have been scrambled and are headed your way as well.

Thank you all!
We're investigating various animal hospitals in our area so we can pick the best surgeon for Buffy. We have lots of friends who are "dog people" and we are getting lots of love and support.
My son is doing ok. We still have some challenging months ahead - including helping him adjust to being back in school after being out for 2 1/2 weeks. Luckily we have carefully picked our health care providers and we have an excellent school district that is working with us. We're fortunate that he is extremely bright and able to keep up with the class, despite his absences. The school is also helping us implement some safeguards (including a 504 which makes allowances for his medical condition like a classroom aide and extra time on tests if he needs). His doctors have been amazing - daily phone communication, etc. I'm optimistic for his future but it's hard to see that when you're caught in the daily mire. We are blessed to have such an amazing and gifted child!

I'm grateful for prayers and pixie dust and good wishes for our whole family! As anyone with a chronically ill child knows, it takes a toll on everyone. And to have our beloved pet become ill at the same time is just devastating! I know there are many dog lovers in the DIS community so I don't think I need to say more. ;)

I'm sending love to everyone for their support!
Amanda
