Extra points avail from Disney

Total newbie here so if you have to punish me for newbie breaches of board etiquette feel free. I know the routine.

We just bought in during the end of year/Christmas sale (AK home). We have 4 kids ages 2,4,8,10. We went to WDW 4 years ago and LOVED it. Crammed ourselves in with MIL at an All Star Music "suite". It was great for the price but now can afford better. Very excited to be going to BLT in March (we were surprised there were open rooms) and having the space of a 2BR. Had a great Christmas morning "We're going to Disney!!!" moment. Can't wait to be able to monorail it to the MK and Epcot although the buses were just fine last time, even with the kids and a stroller. Enough background, I'll get to the point.

Looking at our next vacation (fall 2012) we will need extra points to get a grand villa to bring SIL's fam with us. We are considering buying the extra 24 points from Disney to use on this trip in March so that we can bank more of our own points toward that second trip. But I want to know if it would be cheaper to just rent whatever points we are short for our next trip at that time. How much do the extra points you can buy from Disney for a one time use cost?

IIRC, it's $15 per point. Also, you can't book more than 7 months out if using one-time use points bought from Disney.

DVC john is right....you would have to live with in the 7 month rule. GV's may go quicker than that. If you get a transfer from another member more than likely you will pay less and you could still capitalize on the 11 month...or banking. Find a member with BLT points and your good to go.

You don't rent points. You rent a reservation. So another member would have to make the reservation for the days you did not have points for. Then you pay them, they change the name on the reservation to you.

Or you get a transfer or points from another member. You pay them, they transfer the points into your account. Remember, though, you can't borrow transferred points, but you can bank them. You'd need BLT points to get that GV at BLT at 11 months out.
