DVC allows 4 adults (or children over 3yrs of age) plus one child under 3 yrs of age in a 1 bedroom accommodation. On that basis you'll have one person too many.

Debbie, this is an extremely touchy subject on the main US DVC boards so it's probably a good thing you've brought it up here.

As Hilary correctly points out the DVC rules are 4 people ( 4 and older is considered an adult for purposes of room count) and one child of 3 or under in a packaway crib. Now there are quite a few people who decide to bend the rules and will take 5 people. If you have already invited your DD's friend and it is going to be hard/embarrassing to retract the offer you may decide to just go ahead and continue with your plan. I would advise that if you decide to go this route that the best course of action is to do so quietly. Where the most arguements and strong feelings on this subject come from is not where people occassionally bend the rules and keep quiet about it, it's when they bend the rules and insist on rubbing it the noses of the people who are sticklers for "the rules". Yes there is plenty of room to sleep an extra adult, although your husband has my sympathy sharing a bathroom with 4 women :D, but the occupation rules are there for a reason and many people feel very strongly that they should be adhered to.

It is unlikley that Disney will refuse to take the booking with 5, but you may get questioned over it. If you don't "fess up" to having 5 in the room then you will be one short on Disney ID's for the bus services etc, again you can probably lie to get round any problems but it is a potential hassle.

You could decide to take a 2 bedroom unit, for some of your trip and book into an offsite hotel for a couple of the weekends to offset the higher points cost. IMHO a hotel like the Holiday Inn kids suites would offer ideal rooms. This would probably add about GBP 200-300 (about $500) in hotel costs for you, but may even save a few points. It is a slight inconvenience having to change hotels, but it would keep you inside the DVC rulebook.

Another option would be to alter your room types. Two studios would be a similar points cost, but you could let the 3 girls share one room and you and your DH have one to yourself. you could let the 2 15Y olds share one room and you share with DD2 ( this would give each child their own bed). This has the benefit that there are 2 bathrooms between your group and if the kids are a bit messy you can simply close the door on them LOL.

If you've not already invited the other child then maybe you'll want to rethink your plans altogether.

We are planning a trip with our son's girlfriend. We will be doing exactly as Vernon suggests and having 2 studios. It's actually fewer points than a 1 bed and has the advantage of 2 bathrooms. Plus you give the girls, and yourselves, some privacy - after all, you are on holiday!

There was something a little while back on the main DVC board - if you want to trawl your way through this thread! I'm fairly certain it has been confirmed that you can have 5 adults in a 1 bdr, though no additional bedding will be provided for the 5th person. But it's definitely worth checking with MS first.

thanks for all replies, two options we have enough for 2 bed at okw, 2 studios sound good, one prob i posted this question on the main dvc by mistake so i will creep and check that now. dd 1 (very bossy and opiniated) wanted boardwalk but i quite fancy 2 bed okw

or you could rent extra points and increase your 1-BR at BWV to a 2-BR (sleeps 8). I happen to know someone (me, me, me  ) who is offering to rent points :D

Debby, if you wanted to soften the blow a little for your daughter who's set on BWV, explain to her the benefits of OKW's proximity to DTD.
My DD has taken friends with her a couple of times. When at OKW they enjoyed being able to take the watertaxi through to DTD and wander around there. Depending on your park tix they also might be able to take themselves to DTD and spend a day/afternoon at Disney Quest. With the new slide now at OKW to boost it's pool facilities I think OKW is a much better option.

It's worth checking out the happenings at the HOB, this was a couple of years ago but (I think on fridays) they did run teen "disco" nights at the HOB ( I think the music was more contemporary than "disco" but I used that for want of a better phrase).

If you have a choice between a 2 bed at OKW and a 1 bed at BWV, IMHO there is NO CHOICE. Go with the 2 bed, everyone is going to feel a hell of a lot more comfortable in the bigger accommodations. While it's very nice of you to offer to let the kids have the proper bed, I think that two adults sharing the pull out sofa is not really a workable option for a longer holiday. For a couple of nights, at a push, it'll do the job, but if you find that you and your DH don't sleep well on it, it's going to make for a miserable holiday for everyone concerned. If you're a little tight on points, I'd still go with the 2 bed and either rent a few points to cover it or find an off site hotel for a weekend. If you're flying in on a Saturday, then getting something like a kids suite at the Holiday Inn would be a workable option, most people do little more than grab something to eat and go to sleep on their first night and it would save you 40-50 points. If you were planning a couple of days at Universal, then staying a couple of nights at one of their hotels and making use of the excellent "front of the line" perk for USF hotel guests is going to save you a hell of a lot of time queueing. If you're going at a busy (school holiday time) this perk is worth it's weight in gold. Again if you're staying at a USF hotel, you could let the older girls explore the parks on their own for a couple of hours, if you decide you want to make your way back to the pool. Depending on your schedule, say if you flew home on a Saturday/Sunday you could book into one of the USF hotels for the last 2/3 nights, again saving a lot of points.

I know how bossy and opinionated DD at 15 can be, but if you explain it nice and calmly along the lines of, you can have your friend come with us and we all stay at OKW where everyone gets their own beds/room or we go as a family of four to BWV. Whichever you want darling :D . You can always blame Disney, showing her the room occupancy for a one bedroom is only 4 people :D.

vernon thanks so much for all the input we have already borrowed points but the point about water taxi at okw is good. so at the mo its okw or 2 studios at bwv. what is hobs by the way not familiar with that name. will wait for dd 1 to grace us with her presence to discuss
