Extra Magic Hours Rules Exceptions Question

I apologize, as it was not my intent. I wish postings would be able to convey emotion better. I have poor delivery with them. It's one of my weak points.

I hope the second one didn't come across that way. It wasn't meant to, if it did.

No it didn't and I really appreciate you clarifying your point. :goodvibes I understand from your second post what you were saying.

I know I am new (not new to WDW though) and I am ready for flames. I am not quite sure how if pay for something and decide not to use this how you are stealing. You have the right pay for something and choose to not use it. Again this is just my thoughts.

It is not stealing. But if you have tried to book a campground site they are sometimes very hard to get. There are not as many camping options at
Disney as there are hotel options, kwim? There have been many threads on how frustrating it can be to get a camp site. So when people suggest that you book a site you don't intend to actually camp on, just to get the Disney perks, it tends to cause a ruckus. It is not stealing, but it is not nice to those who truly wish to camp( cook, sleep, pitch a tent, the whole 9 yards).
Unfortunately the only way to stop this is by either checking every site and making sure there is a camping unti on it, or by raising the cost of camping to more than what the value resorts charge.

I don't get it.....

I often book a DVC room for an extra night if I have a late flight. If it's a busy time then yes I am keeping another member from using the room that night when I won't be in it... Am I doing anything wrong? I don't think so, if I choose to use my points or my money on something I won't use that's my problem. Disney knows I am not in the room as I go buy around 6 PM or so and tell them. They DO NOT CARE as long as they have the MONEY! LOL! If you check in and PAY for the camp site there are no rules that you have to use it anymore then there are rules that you have to use the hotel room. (People have also done this trick for good packages at the values knowing full well they were staying at thier spacious timeshare offsite for example, but this way they got free dining, ticket upgrades whatever the deal of the month was)

Yes, there are limited campsites, but Disney is not going to patrol to make sure you use it if you paid for it. As with most deals, the early bird gets the worm.

1. There are many, many, more rooms than campsites on Disney property.
2. It is often hard to book a campsite, they are often full up.
3. Very rarely are all of the hotels on Disney property full.
4. Some people can only afford to go to Disney if they camp. While others can pay for not only a room, but a campsite that they don't intend to use.
5. It is not breaking any rules to do so, but it is not nice. How would you feel if you tried to book say the Poly, but it was all full up because people wanted to ride the monorail, but they really didn't want to stay at the hotel? All of those empty beds and not a soul in them. And then no matter what hotel you tried to book, they were all full? That is how some people who camp at Disney feel. Are the people who booked up the hotel rooms breaking any rules? No. But it wouldn't make you feel any better about not being able to go to Disney yourself, would it?

The OP's question is: do they all need to be staying on site or will Disney make an exception. It isn't 'what sort of availability is there at Fort Wilderness'.

Can we get back to the topic rather than debating about who is entitled to a campsite and who is not?

Not to split hairs, maxiesmom, but if they can afford the WDW campground, they can afford an offsite condo through skyauction, vrbo, etc.

Lots of folks are disappointed when their favourite hotel doesn't have availability. They just stay somewhere else. Just check out the DVC board and see how many people are waitlisted for BWV & BCV for Nov/Dec.!

I understand now why you wanted to "pass the popcorn" earlier. I see that there are strong opinions on the campsite issue, but my suggestion was that they might actually be able to utilize the site somewhat, even if they weren't sleeping there. It seems likely that they will spend some time at the campground with the rest of the group.
