We arrive on Monday and plan on heading right to HS. That night is a extra magic hours night but we wont have a key card. How will they know we are guests. I have not been since magic band implementation

Your MagicBand will have access to your resort info.

The MB is what is scanned at the entrance to each attraction (or a plastic RFID ticket will work)
to verify WDW resort status during PM EMH.

Some have reported that they did not need to actually
have checked into their resort before getting to participate in EMH.
However, in the past, guests DID have to check into the resort first.

Only way to find out for sure is to try it.

Wouldn't doing online check-in solve this for you? You'd be officially checked in even if you didn't go to the resort.

But to make sure, I'd call Disney.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get an accurate answer for this kind of thing by calling "Disney." The "Phone CM's" don't have access to park operation information, but that doesn't stop some of them from making up answers for you.

The best way to find out what actually happens with park operations (and most other things) is to ask on these boards.

::yes::

I did pre check in. We land at 1 and have FP at 3:30 so just not sure if we will have time to go to hotel (where historically rooms arent ready b4 3 anyway) and then get to MGM.

If they scan band I assume it would have a switch showing Resort Guest = Yes.

I will bring print out of reservation just in case but if anyone here has done it and know it works, I appreciate the input.

1. (where historically rooms arent ready b4 3 anyway) and then get to MGM.

2. If they scan band I assume it would have a switch showing Resort Guest = Yes.

3. I will bring print out of reservation just in case but if anyone here has done it and know it works, I appreciate the input.

1. You can check in, even if your room is not ready.

NOTE: If you have a WDW resort PACKAGE (that includes tickets with the resort reservation) you MUST check in at the resort to activate your tickets. So, if that's the case, you need to go by the resort anyway.

2. Yes, they can see you have resort reservations. What they might DO with info, one way or the other, is the unknown.

3. I read hundreds of reports here on these kind of things and keep copious files so that I can answer with the latest info.

But, as I said earlier, some guests have reported no problems with EMH when they have not yet checked in.
But, others HAVE had problems without checking in.

When both of those situations have been reported, I can't in good conscience tell you to not worry about it.

You very well may not have any problems, but just be aware that some guests have.

Will you have a rental car? Oherwise you won't you want to drop your carry-ons off at the resort anyway? We used the Magical Express and allowed 3 1/2 hours from landing at 2:30 to our first FP. This was plenty of time, we had time to grab a quick bite to eat right outside RnRC before our 6 pm FP. 2 1/2 hours could be tight, unless you do have a car and find out about if the bands will work, which I would think they should, but I have no confirmation of that personally.
