We're at AK, arrived right at 8, got back to Everest only to be told they had JUST started safety checks. Why Disney why would you not have one of the two most popular rides ready to go at opening?!?!

That certainly doesn't seem right! I agree, if a park has EMHs the rides should be up and running for guests to use. What is the purpose for arriving early if all you can do is walk around?:confused3

TC :cool1:

It happens. Just like rides are sometimes down during the day, they are sometimes down at opening.

They do, but the ride can - as anythign else - break down or have other issues that delayed the checks and opening. Life is not perfect.

If only AK had more than 2 or 3 popular attractions to go on....and still 3+ years before Avatar opens

If they are performing the safety checks, then that just means they were not there early enough to allow time for it and have one of the most popular attractions open for the paying guests.

Or it could mean they had technical difficulties that delayed the process. It's a bummer, but it happens.

It is possible that they began safety checks, something happened, they just fixed it, and they now have to do safety checks again. Perhaps one of the safety checkers called in sick, who knows??? Rides can go down at any moment, even at opening. I'm sure it wasn't on purpose.

No, it doesn't mean that necessarily. It could mean that something was amiss in their testing and they were still doing them, or that they had other things to worry about.

all I can add is I am glad problem was found and fixed before riders were on. guessing something did not work at first safety check that was fixed then second safety check had to be done. same as anytime a ride goes down before it can be reopened. to op, would you have been happier that it opened on time and went down with you on it and spent your hour waiting to get off? yes that could have happened

That almost happened to us on Space Mountain on a recent trip. We were one of the first ones on in the morning, but just as our car was starting the first plunge, all of the lights came on and we went through the whole ride that way. We coasted through to the end (it is all gravity, after all), but at the exit we had to get out a little farther up the track than usual. There was nobody behind us, so I have to assume that some other cars were stuck on the initial incline. I'm also sure that, once that happens, they have to go through a procedure before they reopen. If something like that happens in the initial test before gusts are on, it is going to delay the opening to the public.

We have gone to EMH in Ak several times and EE has never been up and running on time. Doubt there was anything wrong, they are always slow to get that ride open for EMH. After 3 times of waking up early, we've never hit EMH at AK again!

Thanks for the first hand report. Looks like the OP's initial reaction is correct, that it is just poor and inconsiderate planning by management.

This happened to me at Splash Mountain. The fastpass machines were covered up too. But- it was up and running a few hours later. It's important to be mentally prepared for rides not running at Disney.....so you're not too disappointed. Hope your day got better.

it is a hard call the EMH I did we got on at opening time. wonder how many have been on time as late. we always hear about the late never the on time

Well - that helps me decide - I guess we'll head to the Safari first then!

I did that this morning...by the time I got off Safari EE was just opening and I was on within 5 minutes. I walked over to Dino land did PW and Dino all within the first hour and done at the park, including Nemo and FoW, and lunch by 1! I was kind of hoping for more. Maybe I'm spoiled living near and having a membership to the San Diego Zoo/Safari Park but aside from the active tigers, the animals were kind of disappointing....and I LOVE animals and going to the zoo!

Did you do the Maharajah Trek? That's my favourite trail! The Lion King show was one of the top attractions but it's currently closed. It's Tough to Be a Bug is also a good attraction. Animal Kingdom is beautiful but the narrow pathways make it congested and difficult to enjoy at times.

If I were to go to early EMH, (which i wouldn't as i'm absolutely not a morning person, lol, but if i were to go), I would expect the rides to be ready to go as soon as they opened. Why wouldn't I? No need to post that I found what I expected to find. And, I should be able to expect rides to be up and running as soon as the park is open(that's the point of emh, rides are open early, right?). No need to post that 'wow, the ride is up and running on time at park opening!', because that is expected. We post when we are surprised and don't find what should reasonably be able to expect because those things can change our plans.
