Extra Magic Evening Hours in January

The conciege specialist replied to my question regarding the extra magic hours in the evening...

"I have not heard the rumor about the Extra Magic hours changing. As far as we know, the times and days are staying the same. We have not heard that the Extra Magic Hour will be anything other than 1 hour before park opening."

Even if they did know that they parks were going to the extra magic hours in the evenings, could they really tell us before Disney makes a "formal" announcement? I doubt it.

Post any info as you get it, please! I need to change PS if this is going to happen!

thanks.

I was going to make some PS's today for our February trip. Now I don't know what to do. I really hope this is true and is in effect while we are there but I wish they would make an official announcement. :(

It is a bit frustrating. :(

I'm very excited for night-time EMH, but it's making planning difficult. I already had a Fantasmic! package booked at Brown Derby on the 9th (the reported start date), but now I'm having second thoughts about seeing the show that night if it's also EMH's.

Hopefully we will hear something "offical" soon.

If a park does indeed have an EMH at night, will that affect the times of special events like Illuminations, Wishes and Fantasmic? I would think not, since it's a regular park closing for non-resort guests. But I just want to make sure. Thanks!

This was tested last May, and many guests really liked it. The parks stayed open for 3 hours after the official closing for Disney Resort guests. Haven't heard anything official on whether they are going to implement this permanently.

YIPPIEE! We will be there starting January 21. I am hoping this will be in effect when we get there. I hope they don't just do it for 2 weeks(seems like an awful lot of trouble since it isn't a test program this time) and end it. I am thinking it will continue through the shorter winter hours. I can't even believe they will have AK open until 8pm. Did anyone do this when they tested it in May? Was it dark out? I know it gets dark later in May then it does in January. What is AK like in the dark? I imagine there are no spotlights on the snimals or anything. Could you do the safari or do they still put the animals away at 5pm? Would they be accomadating PS for after the offical close time? I can't wait to hear more about this as we always go in the off season with the shorter hours and always have to do Epcot or DD in the evenings. This would be a wonderful treat sine we are major night owls from the west! :jumping4: :cheer2:

I was planning to go to MGM on Sunday night since they were running 2 Fantasmics (1/16). I guess the second show won't be as empty as I'd hoped if they are having the extended night for MGM on Sundays.

I'm still trying to figure out which Spectro to go to Thursday (which is an EE), Saturday (which will be crazy) or Monday (which is the holiday). I guess I'll wait and see which parks will be open late. I do wish they would announce it officially soon!!! :jumping4:

I wonder if their plan for the extra hours is the reason they scheduled two for that night?? Maybe that is an indication of their plan being a reality?

Hmmm...you may be right! Interesting observation!

No Simbas Mom he only knew that it would be in January, but he did not know an exact date. I shot him an email to find out more, if he gets back with me I will post.

Have you heard anything from CM friend yet? We will be arriving on Jan 22nd as we do did love the eNights so hrs for free sounds great. Assuming they have the "good" rides open. This is one rumor I hope ends up being true. :cool1: :cool1:

Where can I find the times for Fantasmic on 1/16? I only see one listed on the official site. Is there a MORE official site than Disney's own that lists two times?

Sorry. I was wrong. Fantasmic is going twice on 1/17. The website says only 7pm but if you call Disney, the recorded message for MGM Hours says 7pm and 8pm. I guess they are having 2 because of the holiday. :flower1: Sorry for the wrong information.

The extra hours and extra evening shows are in light of MLK weekend (which is typically a bit busy). During the evening EMH I wouldn't anitcipate the special shows (like Fantasmic) or parades to take place. As this would turn out to be too costly.

I for one would love to see an evening EMH become a permanent thing. I think it gives onsite guests the best of both worlds.

Oh, EMH is just for MLK weekend? We're going from 1/22-1/29. I guess they'll be back to the regular, short winter hours then? Drat!

No, EMH starts January 9 and will be a regular thing like EE.

It seems that if they were only going to do the EMH for the holiday weekend that they would also be doing it during the Christmas vacation days and during peak summer periods. Also, it doesn't seem that they would start it on a Sunday. Hopefully it will last for awhile and that Disney will make a formal announcement.

Well if Disney would announce this we would book an extra day at are hotel. We usually arrive in the morning and do the parks. But if we had the extra hours we would head down friday night and still be able to enjoy the parks.

SO ANNOUNCE IT ALREADY!!

Doug

I am sure it would be for more than the MLK weekend, that does not make sense. Why would they do a 2 week test run in May, just to do it for one weekend in January? That would be a waste of time and money- maybe the poster just meant the extra shows were added to accom. MLK weekend, not EMH was added to accom. MLK weekend?

Ah! We'll be there Feb. 6-18, I wonder if this will affect our trip? I hope they announce it ASAP so we can make plans!!
