extra holiday charge to eat?

I'm not saying I don't mind paying the holiday surcharge (I do) -- but it's no different than pricing resort rooms higher at particular times of the year. You don't get anything extra in your room for that higher price either. It's just supply and demand -- they charge what the market will bear.

I just hope that some day they don't start pricing the tickets higher during those times as well.

Yikes! Don't give them any ideas, Tiger

Ya, I have seen several posters already mention that about the tickets. Believe me, if it is going through our heads I know Disney has thought about it already!! I do see that happening possibly in the future at some point.

On our trip this past week, we paid the holiday surcharge for a few Disney buffet meals. Then we got smart and headed for the Golden Corral. The food was just as good and the service was better, and it was about a third of the cost. We always have a car at WDW and we don't use Disney transportation, so going offsite to eat is very convenient for us. It takes us longer to get to restaurants at resorts other than our own than it takes to get to many offsite restaurants. It was the holiday surcharge that drove me offsite, but I'll continue to go offsite even if we're there at a time when the surcharge doesn't apply.

Not only do they increase some of the prices, but some menus are different. My three children and I love to eat at San Angel Inn, but last December (20-24) we ate there and the menu was very disappointing. There were only a few items to choose from.

The 4th of July is the Holiday in July, but I did not know it was a week long event.

Are you kidding? It's not only that week -- unless they've changed it for 2010. We were there in mid-June the last 2 years and it was holiday pricing then. It starts in May or June and goes through 4th of July week sometime - not sure when it ends, sometime in late July I think. Someone might have already posted the dates in this thread, I think.

This is called NICKEL and DIMING the customer! Or shall I say "GOUGING" the customer! It's ridiculous!

What really gets me is the surcharge on the DDP for 2010. Even if you do not eat at any buffets you have to pay the surcharge. It does not affect me since I would not go at these peak times,
But under those conditions, it makes sense NOT to get any Dining Plan!
but I think it is disgraceful. Just a way to get another $5 per person ($1 per kid) per day for the DDP. Do the restaurants get any of that extra $5?
Actually, no - it's a way to provide parity between diners paying out of pocket and diners using a Dining Plan.

We typically get the dining plan on every long trip over the Christmas holiday. The 2010 increase will probably push me over the tipping point to not purchase it again.

Imagine what would happen if....we all stayed offsite and brought in our meals/snacks/water.....then ate at the offsite restaurants. I think WDW would be hit real hard.

Actually, since the DDP came along, we almost do just that, though we usually have lunch in a Disney restaurant.

That's not due to the holidays - it's like that all the time. Many restaurants at Disney (especially those that accept the dining plan) have streamlined and reduced their menus.

Yes, it seems that the dining plan is causing the restaurants to have less and less. Also, at first the dining plan really was a good deal especially when Disney offered if free. I was cost effective including both an appitizer and tip even if you paid for it. Now, the costs are up plus the tip and appitizers are not included. The dining plan used to be somewhat a deal to not really have the increased pricing duing holiday (which is just really now busy season) but not the dining plan costs more then as well. Gradually, I think less people will see the need for the dining plan. Personnally we only have used it during free dining. We don't really need all the TS plus all the scheduing that that has become since the advent of the dining plan. Prior the dining plans, we would visit WDW, make 2-3 TS reservations upon arrival and never have a problem doing so. Now dining in WDW is an art to try to first even get the restaurant you would like and then a time!

I am eating in the Park because I have 4 table services and I am going to do 2 signature restaurants then go out side of dinner for Disney the 2 other night, I get so made deciding where I am will be were I am going to eat when I am there
