Need some opinions: Do you think it's worth an extra $300 to get a Cat. 6 verandah room vice Cat. 8 porthole room? Can't do Cat. 7 as there's four in our group. Thanks for your inputs.

Rita

go for it! I would think you will be happy with your decision. Especially if this price difference is for a seven day cruise! I can't cruise without one!

hi we use to be ok with cat 10 secret porthole room on deck 5 but we upgraded to cat 4 day of our last cruise at the port and
now we like the verandah but we can book cat 7 we think it is worth the extra $$$

Yes, Yes, Yes! As long as you can swing it financially, go for it. If money is tight, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time without one, but it's so relaxing to just go out after others have gone to bed (or before they get up) and just watch (and listen to) the sea go by.

I agree with the other posters. I hope we can always have a verandah.

We're a family of 5 so we can only do the Cat 4 with the verandah, but we absolutely love it and wouldn't want to do it any other way. It's such a nice luxury to have - we did use it a lot and will again, I'm sure.

We didn't have a verandah on the first cruise, but did on the second. We absolutely loved sitting on the verandah in the early morning hours, drinking coffee! It was heaven sent! We are going back in May 2003, and definitely have a verandah again! I guess I figured I was spending quite a bit anyway, what was just a little more for that pleasure! I say go for it! Enjoy!

We had a verandah on our first Disney Magic cruise and loved it so much, we had to have one for our second trip which is planned for January 2003, Western itinerary this time. We kept the door open every night so we could be lulled to sleep by the ocean sounds and gentle tropical breezes, it was heavenly! And we ordered room service to be delivered at a specific time each morning, so we could enjoy sipping coffee out on the verandah too. And I enjoyed "alone time" out there reading, or just watching the water go by, and it was so romantic out there at night, sitting together, holding hands and gazing up at the stars. Can't wait to enjoy the verandah again!!

I just got back from a 4 day Wonder cruise and I had a category 6 room with a verandah. I had never been on a cruise before but now that I have I wouldn't even consider going unless I was going to have a verandah. I loved being out there at night watching the stars and feeling the wind in my hair. It was just so nice and I think that you will be happy that you spent the extra money so you can have the verandah.

Hello Fortwilderness,

What cabin did you have for your Cat 6???

BTW, just loved your story about two days at CC. It sounds like your trip was full of Disney Dreams!!!

Hi PiperG -

Yes our trip was full of pixie dust :) We were in 6096 which was midship. It wasn't terribly convenient though because we were pretty far from the elevators. But we loved our cabin anyway and we would request it again on another cruise for sentimental reasons. It was so pretty and cozy and we loved our verandah :)

We will be in 6092 (Jan 25 '03). Glad to hear you liked the location. I was worried that it might be noisey.

We were in 7562 in Dec '01 and moved to a Cat 6 simply because of the $200 savings. I think 7562 was closer to the stairs etc. but I can live with that.

Gee, my DW and I must be the only people who don't care for a verandah!!!?

Both times we've been on the Magic (4 nights & 7 nights), we got a verandah cabin. I think we spent a total of 20 minutes out on it (mostly to layout wet swim wear to sun dry). I guess we're not the type who like to lay/sit around in semi-privacy. There is so much to do and see that we pretty much only spent time in our room to rest, to clean/change, or to watch tv (news for me and cartoons for kids).

So, we'll be the dissenting voice, we don't think it's worth the extra money. We'd rather spend it on excursions...

Mark,

Its ok not to like the verandas...that leaves more for the rest of us. :)

I wouldn't want to cruise Disney without them. My DH (also a Mark) is not as much of a morning person as I am so I usually spent at least a 1/2 hour each morning out there reading and just watching the world go by. Other times we would be out there together just talking and enjoying the beauty.

To each thier own, but I vote yes to the veranda!

We had a verandah on our 4 day...hardly used it. Had one on 7 day and loved it...used it a lot. Just got back from 3 day cruise w/o verandah for 1st time and am glad we didn't pay $$$ to get one. We were trying to do so much in 3 days that we were seldom in our room except to sleep so we didn't miss having one.

On our first cruise we had a verandah that had the metal in front of it and really didn't enjoy it like we thought. On our second cruise we had the verandah with the clear plexiglass and was hooked! We had coffee in the morning while the sun came up and just sat and watched the clouds, ships, land, etc. go by at night. It was lovely.

My vote is to go with the extra if you can.

Take care, Kathy

On our honeymoon 3 years ago, DH and I had a "wrap-around" balcony on the back of the Carnival Destiny. It was heaven! It rained every day of our honeymoon, but we'd have a pitcher of pina coladas delivered to our cabin and we'd sit out on the balcony watching the world go by!!! I higly recommend the balcony!
