Extra driver charge

Does anyone know which companies do not charge extra for another driver. I usually rent the vehicle and like to have the DW drive at times .
Most companies charge an extra-driver fee, but I have heard there are a few that do not as long as it is your spouse.

If you are part of the Emerald Club of National, the spouse is free.

Just wanted to add, how easy Nationals Emerald club is. Also there is a link to get the membership for free, on www.mousesavers.com

I think Budget does not charge, but I KNOW Dollar and Hertz do (or at least they used to).

Some of these other companies do not charge, like National, If you join their club (Quicksilver, Emerald, FastLane, whatever) But others still do charge, and I forget which was which. And some companies usually do not charge it, but in the small print, it says they charge it in certain locations, and I found Orlando to be opne of those.

I used to go crazy calling about these charges, some are per day, some are a flat $$ amount for a week. They can REALLY add up. Now I went on Mousesavers, joined Emerald for free following their instructions, and I just book under Emerald. Again, following the instructions there for combining codes, I have found National to be cheaper anyway.

Be careful with Budget. I don't know about Orlando but in Las Vegas they will charge the extra driver fee for your spouse if the two of you have different last names.

On a family reunion trip to Las Vegas my brother and sister jointly rented a car from Budget and my DH and I rented a car as well. My brother and sister were not charged the extra driver fee because they have the same last name, even though they don't live at the same address. They did not try to fool the folks at Budget -- their drivers licenses show them living at different addresses and Budget was OK with this because they only cared about the last name.

My DH and I were told we would be charged an extra driver fee because our last names are different (I kept my name when I got married) even though we live at the same address. So I opted not to drive on that trip and after that, we opted not to rent from Budget any more.

Thrifty does not charge if the extra driver is your spouse. We used them last June and were very pleased with them. We joined their Blue Chip program and didn't wait at all. They are off site but the shuttles were easy to take and we had no problems. No one could tough their price on a mini-van.

L&M does not charge for a spouse. If you use an entertainment coupon with Alamo, then you get a free extra driver (not just a spouse). It does not say it on the coupon but on the extra charges/info it will say free additional driver (at least it worked with the $15/wk off coupon I used).
