extra day at sea

My DD had an interesting question. The 3 day cruise stops at CC then the next morning arrives at Port Canival. On the 4 day cruise the ship stops at CC then spends an extra 24 hours somewhere? does it stop or travels futher away from land or go in a circle to spend the extra time?

As far as I know, the ship goes slower and just basically takes a route that is more out of the way.

The captain will try and find a sunny spot - and then sort of cruise around in circles.....
