Some friends of ours went down to WDW this past weekend and were told that their tickets needed to be upgraded ($50 per ticket) in order to use the FastPass system to avoid the long lines. Has anyone heard of this before? I thought all park tickets could be used for FastPass. This is a concern for me as our family is heading down to WDW this June and later on in November and I have not yet purchased tickets and I want the ability to use FastPass.

Sounds like Universal, not Disney. The Disney FastPasses are free to everyone.

WDW fastpasses are free. Sounds like they're confusing their tickets with Universal tickets.

At Disney everyone can use it with a regular ticket.
At Universal it is available to onsite guests or those that purchase a special ticket upgrade. It sounds like they were talking about universal

They might have needed the extra upgrade to be able to "park hop" to multiple parks on the same day but there is no charge for a fast pass.

No, I'm sure they were talking about WDW as they did not go to Universal. the only thing that I'm thinking is that their tickets were not the hard plastic type but instead were the paper kind. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I just want to make sure that if I buy WDW tickets from, say AAA or an official online ticket broker, that I can use FastPass with those tickets

There is no charge for fastpasses.

Park Hopping is $45 and the Water Park and more option is $50 (pre-tax) but fastpass accessibility is a part of all tickets.

It doesn't matter what kind of tickets you have-there is no charge to use fastpass.

Allison - That is what I always thought. Perhaps they were told the wrong information by a new cast member or the cast member thought they wanted to park hop.

Thanks for clarifying this folks.

Paper or plastic, onsite or offsite, it doesn't matter...all fastpasses are free at WDW.
Either your friends actually did go to Universal and didn't tell you about it, or they're pulling your leg, or they heard some guest giving someone else wrong information, or they were upgrading their ticket type and confused it with fastpasses. The fact still remains that fastpasses at WDW are free.

That could be it. I wonder if another guest could have told them this also. I ran into a couple at Epcot in February who thought you had to pay for the fastpass system. I explained to them how it worked because they had no idea.

Just know you don't have to worry about it being an issue and have a great trip. I wish it was me.

I always hear guests telling other guests that the Fast Passes are for people who pay to upgrade their ticket. As I CM, I always try to explain how the FP works and ensure them that they are included in the price of admission. I once had the hardest time convincing a woman they were indeed free. She was majorly reluctant to put her tickets into the machine for fear her credit card would be charged because some Disney "expert" she had met in line the day before told her that's how it worked. :sad2:

I'm guessing one of three things.

One --- Hopping

Two--- Water Parks

or Three --- Shady Ticket Broker?

Even the newest of CMs would know better! Most CMs are first Disney fans, and 2nd CMs. Even if they weren't they would know this. The OP said nothing about buying them at Disney, I wonder if it was # 3 above?

Well, I have an elevator pass that I could sell to them; I haven't tried to use it since my first day of Junior High...

:lmao: :lmao: I think that is so funny that people don't read the park maps that explain fast passes on it. My DH's boss was in Disney the week of Easter and stood in line for 2 hours for some things because they told him it cost a lot money to get the fastpasses. Just unbelievable they are so uninformed, oh well more fast passes for us right ;)
