Im going to be taking our small camera to the parks Canon S95 and would like to get another battery for it. When I buy extra batteries for our cameras it's always the camera brand. Best buy only has this brand digipower or in stock and they highly recommend it. Another local camera store has a promaster in stock.

Has anyone ever used this brand battery if so does it keep a charge?
Or should I try and find the Canon battery? Any suggestions would be great!

Leaving in 6 days so if I order one it won't make it time.

I have a Sony Nex 7 and have 3 batteries that I bought from EBay. I think I paid around $20 for all 3 shipped and they work great. I don't have any problems, they seem to work like the Sony battery.

There are some areas I will scrimp on.... batteries are not one of them. I have had more friends have camera problems with offbrand batteries. So I stick with name brand.

Ditto. When it comes to the power system it's far too easy to muck things up with voltage fluctuations. The wrong voltage can cause progressive damage that you don't notice until after it's too late. And those things aren't covered under warranty. I'd rather spend a few more dollars for the name brand.

This is not to say that Nikon batteries are any worse (or any better) than any other brand but this is to point out how most OEMs handle their battery issues. I doubt the 3rd party resellers ever have a recall.
Ymmv...

"Nikon has announced a voluntary replacement scheme for a sub-standard batch of batteries for its 1 V1, D7000, D800 and D800E cameras. EN-EL15 batteries with an E or F as the 9th character of their serial numbers are at risk of overheating and becoming distorted, though the company says no customers have yet reported the problem. Nikon says it will replace any battery from the affected batch (which only became available after February 29th 2012)."

OEM. Period, as far as I'm concerned.

My camera and equipment are a major investment. I cut no corners when it comes to protecting my investments.

I've done both. Over the years I've found that off-brands are very useful to have if you only expect to use them as "just in case". Their life doesn't seem to be up to OEM stuff. So, if you are looking for something for backup but plan on using the regular OEM battery as your primary then save yourself a bit of money on the backup.

I too have done both. I like SterlingTek and got my extra batteries from there. Then at one point the SterlingTek batteries weren't working exactly right. The camera wouldn't read that it was a full battery sometimes. Luckily no damage was done to the camera. After that I bought a Nikon battery and no issues at all. In the end it was $22 vs $44. When your dealing with a camera that you paid hundreds (if not over a thousand $) for, then is there really a reason to skimp on the power source for that camera?

I agree with the people who say buying the camera brand batteries. I have never bought anything else, but have heard SO many negative reviews on the off brand types that I've always been afraid of something happening to my camera.

When I wanted a spare battery for my canon SX40, people on DPReview recommend a 3rd party battery from ebay. It was super cheap (~$10) and it has been great. lasts much longer than the oem battery.
