extra battery?

Modern Lithium Ion battery packs are sophisticated and (as described above) potentially dangerous gadgets.

The Chinese manufacturers that produce the knock-offs are often the same folks producing the branded items and their off brand versions are fine. But enough people have had problems with the knock-offs that we all know there is risk.

Since I can't tell which is which from looking at them - I've got into the habit of buying off brand versions - but from a reputable dealer with history - Adorama more often than not. The theory being that Adorama has quite a bit of experience and actually has some 'skin in the game' if the products they sell cause problems. This way I save about half the price of a branded battery, but satisfy my individual level of risk aversion.

I do the same. I get them from Adorama or B &H for half that of the OEM (for my camera that is $20). I wouldn't trust Ebay for that type of purchase, but I do trust the reputable online camera vendors.

good but did you order an official approved battery or did you risk life, limb, and property and get a cheap non-official battery.

Are you not bringing your charger? Batteries in today's DSLRs have gotten quite good. I don't have a spare and have had weekends of photoshoots that have exceeded 4000 images without running out of juice.

With that being said, doing a lot of low light/high ISO shots or long exposures which you are more likely to do at Disney, having a way to recharge the battery is certainly a good idea. I bring mine every out of town shoot that I go to just to be sure.

For a high end DSLR, I personally, would not put aftermarket power sources in. Just my personal opinion, but I just don't trust the QA of random Chinese manufacturers in an expensive piece of technology.

The D7000 should get two full days of photography on it without any problem. A second battery isn't a bad idea at all. I'm just speaking from my personal experiences. I don't own one, but my camera which is a hair older than the D7000 would easily get two days and many thousands of images without going dead. Guess I just try and reduce the amount of stuff I have to lug around the park!

I guess I'm just to forgetful in my old age to trust myself. And it would drive me nuts to be sitting at Wishes only to have the battery die just as it begins. I only get so many opportunities to photograph WDW. It's not like I can just come back next week.......

And I actually find myself MORE forgetful the better the batteries get. I find myself more complacent when I don't have to charge it as often.

I ordered the Nikon battery. My DH made me do it! ...

He reminded me of our friend who had a cheap battery blow up in his face. Parts of the battery went in his eye....
Better to be safe then sorry....
