500gb or 1tb? What do you recommend for photo/video storage. Was thinking 1tb as d7000 lossless raw files are large. What does everyone use? Thx

I recently upgraded to 3TB. One TB didn't last as long as I anticipated after I upgraded my camera from a 10mp to a 16mp.

There's not that much price difference between a 500G and 1TB. You know you will have to get extra storage at some point, so I would personally rather buy as much memory as I could afford instead of buying it twice in a short space of time.

I agree- the biggest one in my price range is what I would do. It's amazing how quickly space gets used up.

Same here but as big as possible. I have 8tb in a raid config. Just simple raid 1 so I have a double copy plus the working HS in the computer. I was going to go raid 5 but didn't want to deal with issues down the road cause I'm not the best at this sort of stuff. I know my setup isn't the best use of space but I wanted double backups in case there r issues down the road.

Be glad you didn't go with RAID 5, unless you wanted to spend more money on higher URE drives than most. I have a 6 TB RAID 5 array, but I'm going to replace it with a simple striped 6 GB drive system along with the same kind of unit as a Time Machine backup.

Kenny as you read the last 2 posted about a raid setup. To make this simple just in case you don't know about a raid setup just make sure you buy 2 external HD's and back up to both. Trust me it's not if a HD will fail but when and you don't want to lose all your pictures. I back up to 3 separate HD's, now, this is because I had 2 HD's to fail at the same time. Lucky for me I know how to retrive data from a failed HD.:thumbsup2

Ya all the talk with regards to disk speeds and being able to get along with the mad got me all scared so I just went double copy to keep it nice and easy. When I pull them I will still have 2 backups. I still keep working files on the sad drive on the main computer. Editing from the nas sucked. That lasted 5 mins! Lol
