Extending Current Contracts

What is the most you would be willing to pay to extend contract?

  • $10 or more per point

  • $9 per point

  • $8 per point

  • $7 per point

  • $6 per point

  • $5 per point

  • $4 per point

  • $3 per point

  • $2 per point

  • $1 per point

  • I'd take it if it was free.

  • I don't want it even if it was free.

With off of the talk about SSR ending in 2054, how much would you pay to extend your current contract from 2042 to 2054?

Hi,

I heard from my guide that EVERY member would have to agree to an extention before it could take place. Just my two cents.

Allison

They may never need to extend memberships beyond 2042 at this time, even for money. Too much trouble at this point, especially, if every member has to agree.

I can see them re-selling DVC contracts at the existing DVC resorts beginning in 2042 instead. Most likely existing owners with expiring contracts will have an opportunity to re-buy their contracts at a discount. Otherwise, all points revert back to DVD and they can sell them again for mega $$$.

Maybe the new contracts will be for 12 more years, but most likely it will be for longer.

If this is the case, DVC will also probably take the opportunity to re-adjust all the point usage at the resorts.

This is all JMO. Absolutely no basis in fact or even rumors. It's what I would do if I managed DVD.

Btw, I voted to extend if it was free

By then we will be in our mid 80s. We may be lucky to still be traveling. Don't know if I would pay anything to extend.

I never quite understood why Disney would WANT to extend the contracts. They had all of us pay for the buildings, maintenance and upkeep for 40+ years along with a good healthy profit. After contract end, they will again own ALL the DVC resorts to do with as they wish...

Resell at current prices, use as normal hotels, whatever... It really was a long term deal for Disney so that they make lots of money up front, and can again every 50 years or so. :teeth:

Two words: 'Captive audience'. They know that they will fill the DVC resorts week after week.

Shoot, I could see that it may be of value for younger people...but honestly, in 2042 I'll be 84 years old...I'm not having kids...so big whoop to extending the contract for me :) I just hope I'll still be able to hobble around Disney World, that is, if I even realize I'm there.

Whatever they do... they'll have to turn them around quickly.

There's a lot of resort capacity in DVC (and guest revenue) to take off-line all at once.

No need to extend it. I will be in my ninties then, and my "kids" will be in their 70's.

Also will be in my 80's and have no children. Would take an extention for free, but probably will not be doing yearly Disney tips at that age.

No more than $5/pt... that would bring us up to $79/pt which is what SSR is going for now.

We would do it for $5 a point...

My DW and I will be in our late sixties in 2042... The extra 12 years would be great for those times I'd like to be a snowbird.. :D

If they made it any more than 5-6 dollars though, I'd have to consider it a little more...

Not true. Even if a minority joined in, they could run the resorts just like they do when they're selling them as part cash and part points. Since they will have to keep the infrastructure, it would actually help cut down on costs if even 25% of the members continued. We'll see what happens.

When our contract runs out in 2042 we'll be in our late 70's. I will not extend for any price. Even if the extension is free I do not want to continue to pay maintenance fees.
