Hi All,

I'm a keen lurker on these boards, but don't remember this subject being covered. If you have a reservation made with home resort points during the 11Mo window when should you phone to extend it with non-home resort points? Can you phone at 7 months from the start of the reservation or does it have to be 7 months from the day you want to start adding onto the reservation?

Thanks for your collective wisdom,

Tom

I believe you can only extend the trip if the first day (and all the other days) are available at the 7 month window. So if day 1 is available, but day 2 is booked, then you wouldn't be able to extend.

If you want to add a night at the beginning, call seven months from that night and add it. Or make it online and email to have the two reservations linked.

If you have seven nights already and are adding an eighth night, you should be able to add it when you are seven days out from the second night (so the eight day is seven nights out). But I'm not sure on that.

7 months from the start date of the addition. Not the original reservation.

Example: today is August 5 and assume you have a trip previously reserved at a home resort for March 5 to 12. If you wanted to add March 4 with points from another resort, you could have called Aug 4; if you wanted to add March 3 and 4, you could have call Aug 3.

But if you want to add the night of March 12 and thus make departure date March 13, you have to wait until Aug 6 to call. If you want to add nights of March 12 and 13, you can call either Aug 6 to add the night of March 12 and call Aug 7 to add the night of March 13, or just wait until Aug 7 and call and add nights of March 12 and 13.

Dead right. Adding a little clarification, you can't mix home and non-home points on a single reservation, i.e. you can't literally "extend" a home-points reservation using non-home-points. You have to make an entirely separate reservation. Once you have two sequential reservations with identical room types, you can have MS "link" them so you don't have to check out and check back in.

That does make sense for avoiding some slightly suspect booking practices, but won't help me with my reservation much. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers!

Thanks for the info.

I have been allowed to modify and extend a reservation using non home points. I could not do that until I was 7 months out from the date of nights I wanted, but the CM simply modified my original and added the new nights. I didn't get a new reservation number.

i believe it would depend on whether you were using add-ons to your main contract as opposed to contracts under another membership number...

I wish someone knew exactly how this works. I've gotten at least 5 different explanations from CM's, varying wildly.

You can combine home and non-home points on a single reservation if they are the same member number. What you cannot do is combine points from two separate member numbers for a single night unless you transfer them.

I have also been allowed to extend a reservation at 7 months out with points from a second resort in the same use year. The reference above for having to make separate reservations that you then link applies when you are trying to use a different use year to extend. The result is basically the same.

Well, assuming all days are available, you could also cancel the reservation made at 11 month and use the non home resort to book the original 7 nights or less, and then that day use the 11 month advantage to lengthen the stay. So you could possibly do it all on that 7 month from check in day.
