Quick question. If you utilize the express walk-off on Disembarkation Day just for the sake of keeping your luggage with you and not for an early flight, do you still have to prepare to disembark early (7:15 am)? My family wants to keep their luggage in the room while having our assigned breakfast (main dining). Then before 8:00am we would grab our bags from the room and leave soon after. Is this possible?

You can disembark at any time after your group is called. So yes, you can do this.

DCL won’t pay attention to how many bags you left out the night before and how many you are walking off. Your room steward will appreciate your vacating the room in a timely manner, but 8 am should be OK.

Just did this last month. Told our room steward that we were leaving our bags in the cabin to grab a quick bite at cabanas. He said it was not an issue because he had lots of other cabins he could be cleaning. Ate and went back and grabbed our bags and then got in the long line to leave the ship.

Yup we did it last year on the Wish. We left the bags in the rooms , went to Marceline for breakfast then returned to the room to wash up and grab the bags.

Just as a word of caution. I do this regularly and dip out early. This is where you are taking advantage of it. If you're waiting around and eating you're going to run into crowds which will be a pain. We end up taking the stairs if we don't leave right away. Which means lugging your own suitcases down multiple flights of stairs. Its not fun especially when you're like me and have a big heavy rolling suitcase.

We have decided going forward if we are doing express we have to get out early. If not we are just sending the luggage with Disney.

Thank you everyone for the replies!

You can't arrange for an early group call. The character on your luggage tag is your group. It's to avoid havoc of hundreds of people all debarking at once.

How do you arrange for an early group call?
The groups are only if you give DCL your luggage the night before. They call you in groups (based on the luggage tag they give you) to control crowds (and also to help organize your luggage so you can find it). If you do express walk off that doesn't apply to you because you're carrying your own luggage off. You can walk off at any point once they announce you can disembark, you don't have to wait for a particular group.

How early is early? If you want to be among the first to get off using Express Walkoff, what time should you be downstairs?

We do express walk off all the time and lately we've still run into long lines because the ship doesn't open to disembark until 8a. My point being, don't expect to just walk off the ship but if you wait until 8a the line is going to be even longer. So no need to run if you get out of your cabin at 7:30 instead of 7a.

My other FYI concerning express walk off is if you use hotel transpo they are either likely to not be there and/or you'll be sitting for an hour for all the people who chose to eat breakfast. BITD hotel transpo would take early disembarkers via van and we'd be at the hotel by 9:15am but now they wait to fill a large bus so you'll be at your WDW resort more around 10:30 am. The bus isn't allowed to leave until the DCL bus checker gives permission.
