Express Pass Question

My family has only been to Universal Studios once. I want to spend 2 days there this summer as an offshoot to our Daytona week at the beach. I know summer will be crazy busy and wanted to stay at least one night at US to get the express passes. However, the cost per night is far over my budget. I'm thinking of driving over from Daytona, purchasing express passes, going in at opening and riding as much as possible without the pass then use the passes later in the day when the crowd increases. For those that are experienced with US, would this work well or not? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much!

A few things to remember. Most likely, express passes will not work in the new Diagon Alley for anyone. The way to beat those crowds would be to stay onsite to get early admission.

Also need to take in to acct how many passes you will need to buy and if it is for one park or two. If there are 4 people (just a guess i cant see signatures) you would need to buy 4 per day. Depending how busy it is a 2 park pass starts at $56-$69 per pass in June. Even if you have a smaller group and only buy 2 passes that could be the difference of staying offsite verse on site, since you would have to pay for an off site hotel and EP.

I think it is definitely more economical to stay on site. RP is cheapest that still offered early entry and EP.

It would be the week starting June 28th and there would be 5 of us. Do any on site rooms allow 5 people without the cost of a suite? Youngest is 16 years.

All of the two queen bed rooms allow 5 people.

You want to visit for 2 days. Taking it down to a barebones stay, that's just one night needed. Get to the hotel early on checkin day, do the checkin process and get the included Express Passes, then head on over. You get those unlimited EPs for BOTH days, and early entrance to Wizarding World for both days as well, with just that one night.

***note: I'm talking about the 3 deluxe resorts here, Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, and Portofino...Cabana Bay won't have the EP option and who knows how they will do everything else...***

I use this site to book a room-only reservation with the Universal hotels.

Using 4 adults and 1 child (making assumptions based on what you said) you could go through that week one day at a time and find the deluxe resort (NOT Cabana Bay!) that's most budget for you.

I would bet quite a bit of money that one night would be LESS than buying 5 Express Passes, especially realizing that you would want EPs for both days you want to be at the parks! And those are limited, not unlimited like what is included at the resorts.

Question! Where are you staying in Daytona? I've just decided to stay at a hotel while visiting family out there, and I'm looking at resorts. (for January, so the pools aren't as big of a draw as they would be in June)
