Expose on WDW & Cast Members?

No one has yet answered why someone elses "morals" are anyone elses business.

[sarcasm] Because, without people to regulate morals we'd all become drugged up, sex crazed maniacs looting stores and selling children into slavery and before you know it Mickey will be tokin a blunt and Minnie will be with Donald, and Goofy, and who knows who else! :earseek: [/sarcasm]

I WILL...they are absolutely, 100% none of anyone else's business. I understand that the OP may not be into some of the things that other college students are into, but that does not make her better than anyone else. (in some of her posts, she made it sound that way). Everyone goes through their own adjustments and should not be judged for them.

I usually just read these types of threads and don't respond, but it really bothers me that she is taking this "holier than thou" stance.

Lets face it...SOME college students are drinking, taking drugs and having sex. The world is not going to come to an end because of this!!

My son is in his 2nd internship at WDW. He went through two roommates (fired) in his first semester, and a "girl" friend of his went through many more. I've heard the dropout/firing rate is around 40%. Not sure if it's true, but the kids near my son seemed to hold to that blow-out rate.

As a parent (I work in a high school...been there/seen that) I still feel better about him working at WDW and living at Vista than I ever did in the regular college dorms and his apartment. Here, he always had to be in pretty much top form to narrate, etc., the next morning, early...and Disney didn't fool around with handovers or oversleeping. And those three hurricanes made him grow up real quick.

BTW: one other parent said to me...."this is a country club for kids." LOL

People were saying it was OK for the CMs to have promiscuous sex and do drugs. That's immoral, and you can flame me all you want. It does not change what it is.

Actually, I think people are saying that CM's have private lives - none of our business. As long as they meet the standards set by the employer, WDW, they they can live life as they see fit in the home and after hours.

I'm not going to throw my hat into the whole 'morals' argument, because you guys seem to be handling it quite well (don't judge me, and I won't judge you).

However, I would like to add some first-hand observations. One of my best friends from high school is currently in his third intership in the CP. I was there to visit him his first year, and as most of you have said, it was just like any other college community. There were friends, fun, a bit of drinking, and a bit of hooking up...However, there was one very big difference. These kids (young adults) are all, like us, Disney lovers. I like to think that that fact alone serves to differentiate them from your typical hedonist college lifestyle. Sure, most of them enjoy semi-legal unwinding time after work, but at their core, they all have that 'Disney Vibe' that lets you know they are all good people. They know Woody is a good guy, Zurg is the bad guy, and every hero has his or her faults.

And, I know I said I wouldn't but, if we are talking about morals, remember--even the Amish have thier "Rumspringe" (a time in a young person's life to leave the church and sow thier wild oats). I grew up in Lancaster Co.--trust me, I've seen it. You can have fun as a young person and still grow to be the moral backbone of a community.

I am soooooo happy that you are so wonderful in every way. That we would all want our children to be just like you. Do you give lessons?

I am the first to admit that I would not want my children to make some of the choices that I did, but really, it is just stupefying how arrogant and narcissistic you are!

I hope you never make a mistake in your life, or compromise one of your morals, because that is going to be one looooonnnngggg fall down.

first, i would like to say that i am sorry if by learning that some of the cm's are not perfect, and that they don't lead perfect lives, tarnishes your experiences of disney. your experiences that you have there are what you make of it and what you get out of it. :wizard: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

secondly, i am a college student (sad to say i have been on the 10-year plan :confused3 - something always came up :guilty: )

in the course of these years while attending college, i have encountered numerous people who are like these that you are talking about. i consider myself to be "moral". but, like the other poster said, everyone has a different definition of morality. ever take an ethics class??? :scratchin

i have never done drugs, not even smoked a cigarette, the thought of doing any of these just made me feel sick :crazy2:, or even gotten drunk...

does this mean that i am going to try to make everyone around me be exactly as i am? Taking the "Thou shalt be as I am" :worship: approach to others is not going to make them act the way you want. how are they supposed to learn if they don't make mistakes? remember that these are college students looking to have fun while away from mommy and daddy, whether in wdw, or anywhere else. just because they work there does not make them perfect human beings.

you can advise your friends and those you know to be careful of their long term health of drinking too much  all the time :scared:, warn them about the dangers of drugs and unprotected promiscuous sexuality:scared1:, and hope that they take heed. but does that mean that they have to listen to you? those are just the ones that are hard-headed to learn anything.

it is their decision to make and not our position to JUDGE those who make those decisions. :snooty: especially if it does not affect the guests and their experiences while on their trip. they can do as they wish when they are off the clock.

just don't let it ruin your own experiences in disney, and enjoy them for what they are.

:earsgirl:

I am not getting involved in this discussion one way or another but wanted to remind you all that name calling and attacks aren't allowed, at least not from what I remember of the TOS. Completely unnecessary :(

I just read the article online and it is ridiculous. It is VERY biased and written to shock you.
As many other posters have said, Vista Way is no different than any other college campus. And I'm quite sure it isn't just the college kids having fun at WDW. I remember our "leads" having parties that would rival anything at Vista Way. Come to think of it, most of the partying we did was at co-workers apartments off Disney property. Most people don't realize how stressful it is being in the college program. You need to something to unwind so that you don't snap on the job. We didn't get payed much and had to work very long hours which we were happy to do most of the time.
I'm so glad I was part of the college program and I'll cherish those memories always. I made great friends down there that I have to this day.
I'm glad the original poster was so shocked. That means the cast members do their jobs very well creating the magic.
Party on CP's!!!!!!!!! ::MickeyMo

BTW my glow necklace is out. Anyone have one I can borrow. I can trade for ice cream :rotfl:

I suppose the thing to remember here is that wether these kids go to College at Fullerton or Florida State ... or participate in the DCP, they're still young adults... and part of growing up is experimentation. It could be with drinking, drugs or sex. The other important thing to remember is that as an adult they are free to make their own choices.

Not everyone in the DCP is a party fiend, nor are they all drunks and druggies, and it really is -No One's Business- what goes on after hours.

I guess that it's par for the course though, if you work for Disney there will always be those who scrutinize your every behaviour and hold you up to some "higher" standard. Sorry folks, Disney isn't Magical, it's just a corporation, out to make a buck. Because someone works for them does not make them a saint, nor should they be expected to be "better than" their peers.

So when these college age kids, get married in their late 20's and find out they can't get pregnant-because of STD's, maybe the world will end one day.

Um...just because they work at Disney doesn't mean they are different than other college kids. Just like any college , some people do these things and some people don't. You can't generalize everyone. Just because they work at Disney doesn't mean they are goody-goody... It's their job and looks good on their resume and they get to be away from home - what's better? Why didn't I hear about this internship while I'm at college ? :)
