Explaining why characters don't talk?

Hi All,

just wondering what some of you have said to explain why the costume characters don't talk or why they don't talk but the face characters do? I'm not really worried about this more curious... I have a sneaking suspicion older DD (currently 7) has figured out they're costumes but DD5 is definitely still fully invested and I'm not sure what to say if she asks

You could just tell them "They don't speak because you couldn't hear them through those big fake heads"

It's a good question. Maybe they don't speak because they meet people from all over the world and can't speak every language???

Whenever my kid asks me a question about Disney I don’t know the answer to, I just shrug and say “I don’t know, but why don’t you ask them next time we go?”

I’m sure at Disney the characters / CMs will have a better response than I could think of.

I would tell them it’s because we wouldn’t be able to understand bear, mouse, donkey, dog, duck , etc… If a child says “but they talk in cartoons”, just explain a person actually translates and speaks for them. It might work! Then quickly suggest getting a snack!

I only know that any child I’ve taken has never asked. They just accepted it as much as they accepted they are 5’ tall

My miss 6 turning 7 in October just asked me today "how come Mickey Mouse is so small on tv like a mouse and is so big at Disneyland"? she has seen my photo with him but has yet to meet the mouse.

I just replied with I don't know.
