How does it work?

I will be in the walking corral at the 5K(I have about a 14 minute mile running/walking).

When does the clock for sweeping start ticking?

If it is when the first person crosses the line, then technically, I could not pass the start until a few minutes into the race which would much reduce the 15 minute window to make it to mile 1 marker, right? Or does it start when the last person crosses?

I am very confused.

How do they sweep you? Can you run away from the bus, LOL?

The clock starts after the last person crosses the start line and then if you do not make the time that they set for you (example 3 miles in 1 hour) then they will come and pick you up and bring you back to the finish line.

I know others will chime in. but This is the most I know. I just know i don't want to get swept or i will cry

I always envisioned Mickey, Minnie and the gang chasing us with their brooms, knocking us over the head and dragging us kicking and screaming into a big bus being driven by Cruella de Ville.

We will walk together in the Oct TOT race so no one is getting sweept. Nope we will beat what ever the cut off is. Being WISH team means we will all finish in time.

That makes me feel much better, Dave. :) I really want to avoid being swept. I'm determined to maintain the pace, no matter what it is. :) If we stick together, I know I'll make it.

Tammy depend on we will all get through this together. We will have the best party ever after it's over to. Gosh there will a bunch of wish shirts out there that day. Those florecent yellow green shirts will go well with the race theme to.

Susie .. :lmao: If that was the case Susan would be willing swept to get on a bus full of characters LOL

I'm hoping the ToT field is like it was at DL and I was able to spot WISH members along the course. Seriously I don't think i was ever out of sight of the shirt. Funny at WDw (with even more members) this January I didn't see one on the course but did spot them on the sidelines. In reading of those going out for the 1st time on ToT I'm back to wearing my WISH shirt so I can be spotted for a word of encouragement. Now if you get near Susan she is more likely to spot a water station, grab a cup of h2o and sitting down for a chat in the middle of a race (she's much more laid back than I) where as I will be glancing at my garmin freaking out if we start slowing down to much :rolleyes1 Either way I'm up for a Hi and if you like to run/walk alongside.

In DL, Susan pulled herself early because her foot was acting up so badly. I was in the corral behind her and yet passed her before Mile 2. She was at the front of her corral and I was at the front of mine (I was able to wave to her at the start due to the corral placement). Anyways, it was a HUGE mental obscale knowing she was no longer in the race. I train with DH and Susan and just knowing they are behind me somewhere is like a safety blanket to me. My comfort zone is secure in knowing someone is just there. Coming across Anne (mahare) just as we entered the MK and keeping near her from that point until she pulled ahead (she is a strong fast walker! i want HER pace) thanks to the shirt and her hat I was able to keep her in sight until i caught sight of GoingtheDistance, his wife and PumpkinKing. spotting them and moving up to near them was wonderful. I was no longer alone on the course thanks to the other WISH members.

Now knowing they are out there on the course and along the course cheering I watch for them and am once again in my comfort zone.

Watch for the shirts and if it's Minnie or Marathon Weekend watch for the green signs. I saw members waving bright green signs during the Half and will be sure to have one for cheering next year's Half :)

Your not alone! Though if you get near me and my garmin (slow but still paced obsessed LOL) you might wish you were :rotfl:

Happy training!!! The weekend is looking good here so I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend for many miles!!!! Get in your steps and you WILL do this. Positive training, be strong and avoid Cruella's bus ;)

They come out with a big cane - just like on the stage - and pull you off the course... :scared1:

You're struggling along and you get a tap on your shoulder...:scared:

You hear a siren behind you and a cop pulls up along side you...

These are all the nightmares I had for months before the Half.

As you can see by my tag, I was petrified of being swept.

However, as Dave says, Don't worry. We'll be there to protect you.

Susie, I always envisioned the "Sweeper" as Pegleg Pete in a black van, driving along the course.

He'd pull up along a runner, and using one of those long hooks they use in cartoons to pull actors off of the stage, he would reach out and pull the runner into the van.

Who says I don't still have an over-active imagination.

Ok here is the plan. Before the race we find the sweeper and let the air out of the tires. Then we put ex-lax in the drivers coffee.

Wicked Is So Horrible, WISH or We Is So Horrible.

Wow, so really the pace limit could be way over 15 if you're farther up.

How does Disney line you up? (Including the smaller races?)

Here is how the Minnie is being handled with a 15 min/mi pace requirement:

Start line placement: There will be pink, green, and purple flags at the start line. Please line up at the start line between the flags according to your average per mile pace:
Pink: 5-9 minute miles
Green: 9-12 minute miles
Purple: 12-15 minute miles
There will be Disney staff and volunteers to assist you with this placement.

Love the funny images! I always pictured the garbage trunk dumping me into the dumpster, like on Ally McBeal (am I dating myself too much here) OK, if you really want to know what it is like keep reading.

In the 2005 1/2 and full (which were together then), the sweepers were the disney buses; you could see them gathering in the median, waiting for the poor, dragging participants. But, the real characters to watch out for were the really cute guys on bikes, who ride right up to you and say "I am sorry ladies, but everyone behind this point will need to start loading onto the buses over there. This happened just behind me and was enough to scare me into running like crazy. Alas, it was not to be as I was closed out at the back gate to MK, but still maintain the event was one of the best things I have ever done.
