Explain cruise w/ points?

DD wants to use points for the Med. cruise. She wants to take her cousin with her and use her dvc points. I checked the member website and it states the amount of points needed. Is this per person or per room. If it's per person she may just pay cash. Would there be any benefits going through MS to make a cash reservation or would she book through DCL. If she use's cash does she put down a deposit and if so when is she expected to pay the rest. If she use's points is any cash involved. Is this an all inclusive(room/food). Thanks Susan

The points are per person, they give you a number for the first and second person in a cabin and a seperate number for the thrid plus depending on whether they are an adult or not. You can use points for one or more people and pay cash for the others. When you pay cash, you have to pay at the time of booking, so that can be a big disadvantage. But then, you vacation is paid for early. You go through member services for this and they will give you your cabin number so you can change if you want. They will also give you a reservation number that you can use on the DCL website to go in and look at details about your trip and add information like your Castaway number.

You cannot reserve on just cash alone through MS. You must reserve at least one adult on points. Remember that all cash is due up front for a MS reservation, there is an extra $75 fee which you must pay again if you make any changes no matter how trivial. Plus if you have to cancel, you don't get full points back only reservation points which expire at the end of that use year. I'd get a quote both ways but suspect regular cash will be the best option, it's certainly the safest and usually the cheapest.
