There are some airlines we fly more often than others. United Airlines is one that we do not fly very often, however we have managed to accummulate some miles. I was able to use a 15,000 of my miles and 5,000 of one of my son's miles for our interisland flights on Aloha Airlines this summer. That still left me 8,000 in one account and 6500 in another son's account that is due to expire at the end of the month. Your options are:
Purchase additional miles for $54 per 1000 and maintain the account open for another 3 years, or, for no charge, donate 1000 miles to "hero miles". This costs you nothing and will keep the account active for another three years. The miles go into an account for our service men and women who come home on leave but then have to spend the money to get to their own homes. Every one wins from this program. My DH has 60,000 miles that are going to expire. I plan to give 1000 miles from his account as well. He really wins on this one!
