Expired ticket question

I have some magic your way 7 day tickets that expire at the end of 2018. I won't be using them at all before they expire (changed circumstances). I thought i would be able to get a credit for these towards new tickets. I recently asked at MK guest relations and they denied this was Disneyworld policy. Whilst I can find information on mousesavers and other DIsney blogs stating that this is possible, I can't find anything official from Disney. Does anyone know what the official Disneyworld policy is for unused, expired Magic Your Way tickets? Will my tickets be just worthless when they expire? Thanks

It is my understanding that expired tickets are worthless when they expire. Years ago WDW tickets never expired and the 'value' of unused days on those tickets could be used towards the purchase of a new ticket today. However, any tickets with an expiry date (issued in more recent years) has no value after the expiry even if you didn't use all the days that the ticket was valid for at the time of purchase.

There used to be a way to pay for tickets' unused days to NOT expire BUT I just checked on Mousesavers.com and it says that the non-expiry option is no longer available (since 2015). So I guess that unless you do get a chance to use these before they expire, it is simply a loss. Sorry!

Disneyland offers a credit for the old tickets towards new tickets but WDW has never had tickets like this that expire whether used or not before so it’s hard to tell what the official policy will be until after Dec 31, 2018.

According to the WDW website: "The amount paid for an unused, expired ticket may be applied towards the purchase of a new ticket at the current price so long as the new ticket purchase price is equal to or greater than the amount paid for the original ticket."

Here is the page. Just scroll down to the paragraph entitled "Additional Information": https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/tickets/ticket-dates/

Thank you! Guest relations challenged me (rather unpleasantly!) to find the Disneyworld policy on their website, which under pressure I couldn't find. You would think they would know their own policy! It's good to know that the money I spent won't be wasted though.

That's not the kind of "expiring of tickets" about which the OP was asking.

In this situation, and given relative confidence that you knew you were right, I would have considered asking for a supervisor to confirm the answer. Even a Guest Relations CM can be wrong sometimes.
