Expiration Years

Hi Everyone :)

Well I'm in the very early steps in possibly becoming a DVC owner! I've found a lot of very good information so far, but I was wondering about expiration years.

I see that OKW (and others) is set to expire in 2042. Does this mean that if I bought in this year that my contract would be up in 37 years or if I bought in next year it would be up in 36 years?

I see that SSR is up in 2054 (I think that's right), so it would make more sense to me that if the above scenario is true it would be best for me to go with SSR (I'm looking for longevity).

I was just really interested in OKW because it doesn't take as many points to stay there.

Thanks so much for any input you have.

Best,
Emily

SSR deeds terminate 1.31.54
AKV deeds terminate 1.31.57
BLT & VGC deeds terminate 1.31.60
OKW deeds terminate either 1.31.42 or 1.31.57
All other current resort deeds terminate 1.31.42

IMO, buy where you love to stay and don't worry about what's longer or cheaper.

Do you really want a membership and not get to stay at your favorite resort when you want to stay there?

I would venture to guess that most members will never keep their membership until the end anyway. 35 years or 50 years is a long time to spend at WDW every year.

Heck in 35 years WDW my be owned by some other company.

some OKW contracts expire in 2057. so be patient and look for an OKW resale that expires in 2057...or else buy OKW directly from DVC (as all direct purchases expire in 2057 - but buying direct will be a little more expensive).

We are one of those owners that had been offered the option to extend our membership at the discounted rate. We considered our ages (still a bit younger than Mick Jagger). Then considered whether they'd let us out of the nursing home to ride Mission Space when we are 90+ years of age. Rather than spend $$$ to extend our membership for some unknown future we choose to use that same amount for a resale add-on to be used now and in the immediate future. The bottom line is that you are prepaying for your accommodations for the next umpteen years. I anticipate that in 2042, when our OKW membership expires, they'll be sprinkling my ashes from the DVC Boat Shuttle to Downtown Disney.
