Expert Help on Points Allocation

When we bought DVC, we planned to go for 1 trip annually in Oct, so we bought an Aug UY. Now we are thinking about going in Oct, then the following May, then skipping the next UY entirely. To do this, we will need to bank a few points, use the entire current UY and borrow some points as well. Also, we like to stay BWV SV, and can book at the 11 month window.

So, it seems to me that, in case we cancel, we should use the banked/borrowed points for the early UY vacation and the current UY points for the later vacation. But we probably don't want to borrow until we have to, which would be for the 2nd vacation in May. Can we re-allocate our points from our booked Oct vacation when we book for May or is this possible only in the unlikely event that the SV room is available for Oct when we book the May trip in June?

I know this would all be solved if we bought more points, but we still really only want to have a net of 1 WDW vacation per year. It would also be solved if we had a different UY, but that option is probably not cost effective.

You should still be allowed to reallocate since it's still your home resort.

What is not allowed is making a reservation at a home resort at 11-months, and then at 7-months trying to reallocate the points used to come from a non-home resort. In this case a new reservation is required, based on availability.

In your case, you only want to change which points were used, regular or banked, or borrowed.

In the past members have reported making two reservations for different times of the year, perhaps using banked points for one and regular points for the 2nd. Then they have to cancel the 1st one that used the banked points. MS has always allowed those banked points to be reallocated to the 2nd reservation.

Implementation varies with the CM, however, technically they should not reallocate points to nights that are on a wait list home resort or not. But they can to any night not on a wait list. If I were you, here's what I'd do. Make the first reservation using then current years points then when you go to make the May reservation, reallocate the borrowed points to the Oct reservation and use current year points for May which is much later in your use year. The same end result as Bill mentioned but without the uncertainty of a last minute shuffle which MS will frequently not allow.
