I need some kind of dessert that would be easy, not too expensive and that would feed 50.

DD is going to the football banquet this Thur. Dec 9. Each cheerleader is responsible to bring a dessert that would feed 50.

Any and all ideas appreciated. I would like to do something besides cookies if possible. TIA!

I would make cupcakes or brownies. They are both really easy.

Lemon squares, brownies, if you are looking for really inexpensive, indian pudding with whipped cream, cool whip or squirty whipped cream. Indian pudding is basically milk, molasses, cinnamon, butter and corn meal. Its a little time consuming however.

What about chocolate covered stuff? I would make up a fancy tray with chocolate covered pretzels, oreos, and other stuff.

It is very simple. You melt chocolate and then dip.:thumbsup2

Well, it would depend on whether or not you have the makings already lying around in your house, but bread pudding is a holiday classic, and I can usually manage to make it from what's in the house if I have a bit of notice. (If not, it's still cheap if you happen to have a day-old bread store nearby.)

Your biggest challenge in baking for 50 might be pans. Try borrowing some from friends if you don't have enough.

I think the Rice Krispie treats is a good idea. Throw in some of those "fun fetti" cookie & cake decorations to make them more festive.

Everyone loves Rice Krispie treats.

Another idea is Muddy Buddy mix & put it in little party favor bags that you can pick up at the Dollar Tree.

Some sort of a trifle-- bake some cakes and then tear them up and layer with pudding and top with whipped cream-- you can add fruit also. Put it in a really big bowl or in one of those disposable roasting pans.

I hesitate to mention this because I think they sound really gross, but apparently Cake Balls are the new big thing and people love them. Basically they are torn up cake mushed together with frosting, rolled into balls and then coated with white or regular chocolate. While the coating is still wet you can add chopped nuts, sprinkles, coconut etc. That would be pretty quick and easy to get 50 out of. If you google search cake balls you should find plenty of recipes.

Thank you guys for all the great ideas. I was stressing this morning and couldn't think of anything....its just one of those days. I knew I could count on my fellow Disers. :flower3:

Hopefully those you are doing this with, will actually read this and follow it. We just had a banquet and it was a request for a serving that would feed 50 as well.

We had some that brought:

2 9inch pies.
2 dozen cookies
a dozen cupcakes
2 lbs of cole slaw

The one that got me the most was the family of 8, that brought a tray of hydrox sandwich cookies, was one of the 1st thru the food line and each filled up two plates.

While you don't have to spend a lot, please make sure there will be enough to cover your portion. For me, when I think high school kids - football players at that, 1 cookie each for a total of just 50 cookies, wouldn't be enough. For ours we had a to bring a pasta dish. I ended up doing an alfrado dish and I made enough to fill two 12x10x4.5 inch pans. I thought I was taking too much. Wrong, both were scraped clean, because of many who didn't follow the request for 50 or didn't read that part, even though it was noted several times.

Chocolate covered pretzel rods are inexpensive, easy to make and always have huge WOW power because they are so expensive in stores.

You can pick up any brand of pretzel rods you can find and a few bags of whatever milk chocolate chips you find on sale. Lay out wax paper on some cookie sheets to set the pretzels on after you dip them. Fill up a dry tall and thin coffee mug with chocolate chips and microwave at 30 - 15 second intervals mixing in between with a dry spoon. When they are melted work quickly and dip the pretzels 1/2 way in, when you lay them out on wax paper a helper can sprinkle with pretty sprinkles before they cool.

Every-time I put these out or deliver them somewhere they disappear in a flash:wizard:

For something different you could buy several store baked angel food cakes. Pre-slice and arrange in a disposable pan. In a separate pan have some macerated berries and a few cans of whipped topping. It's something different yet still easy as the most work is slicing the berries etc.
