experiences with additional drivers

I am looking in to renting a car for my next trip and due to people being in conferences at different times, at least 2 drivers would be needed. Are you able to add additional drivers for specific days? Who has the lowest additional driver fees? Alamo seems to have the lowest rates for the rental, but if their fees are too high, it would make sense to go with another agency.

I just read this today! It doesn't really answer your question, but may guide you a bit. I usually rent EA with National. I've been told (and it reads in their rules, I think) that when on company travel, people with the same company there is no fee.

Only way to know for sure is to make a couple reservation with different companies, and that call and ask the question specific to each reservation.

I know Alamo used to say spouses were free, but then I found out that didn't apply when it was a priceline reservation.

If you are a Costco member, you can get one additional driver for free.

I made a reservation with Alamo and my confirmation email says "(1) Additional Driver Included". I didn't request an additional driver, so there is no additional fee...

I have found that if you use an entertainment coupon with alamo you also get a free additional driver.

That is normally only true if your company has an agreement with National. For example, my company has an agreement with Hertz, National and Avis. Rules are that on a business trip any employee of the company can drive the car (of course our contract also says that Hertz, National and Avis give us free insurance) However, if a spouse joins you on the trip the benefits do not extend to them.
