Experiences flying into Sanford?

I can easily fly into Sanford from our local airport, but was just wondering what Sanford is like. Would you recommend flying into there? How far is it from MCO and WDW?

While I'm at it, what's your experiences with Allegiant Air? Taking them means one flight in and out on the days I want to travel. What happens if the flight is canceled? How often are they delayed or canceled?

We used Allegiant to fly into Sanford on one of our trips. I really liked the fact that we had a direct flight and the airport is very small and it's easy to find the rental car desk... The distance to the resort is about twice as far, but you spend half as much time in the airport, so it's a wash. I'd probably do it again because the flights are cheap and I like having a car - even when staying onsite. But, the conveniece of Magical Express at MCO is REALLY great if you plan to use Dis transportation during the rest of your trip.

In regard to cancelled flights - that's could be a real problem! We've never had it happen, but we had friends who planned to fly to Vegas for New Year's Eve (on Allegiant). There flight was canceled due to weather and they were out of luck - the only thing Allegiant will do is refund your money. They had to cancel their trip.
