Experiences changing to less expensive jetblue flight?

I have tickets booked prior to Jetblue's fare change on a flight more than 60 days from now. I know I will have a $75.00 change fee if I rebook a different flight. Before their fare change, I believe I read you could rebook to a less expensive flight, and the extra money would go into a travel bank. Has anyone successfully done this? I am starting a new job, and will now have the same vacation schedule as the rest of my family. DH had planned to fly with the kids a couple days earlier on cheaper flights, while I finished work. I am looking at trying to fly together for about $70.00 cheaper tickets. Of course, this would mean more time in Disney!

It's not very often that JB drops a fare by more than $75!! JB made this change for a reason...they were losing money on all of us watching fares hi down and then change to the lower fare! Free. If the change fee is $75, the lower fare would have to be at least $76 lower in order to make sense.

Sounds like OP is more interested in changing her flight to a better date than in the fare difference itself. My question is can the new $75 change fee be paid at the time of the change with the $70 fare credit plus $5 out if pocket or does the OP need to pay $75 more and then end up with a $70 credit for later use.

Sharona, that's right. I now want a different flight entirely, or at least same flight different day. Since every flight leaving before 12/23 is cheaper, I am just hoping to get some credit, since I will be paying a change fee on top of a relatively pricy ticket. I don't even mind if it has to be banked for later use, as we use jetblue for most travel.

Not sure what you mean by 'old fare rules'. Do you mean if you booked by a certain date, you could still make changes without the change fee? If so, I doubt that's in effect any more.

I booked prior to the July 30th switch to 3 different fare categories, each of which has its own set of change fees and rules. When I booked, the change fee was $75.00 a ticket, and remains so on their website. I do need to switch more than 60 days before the flight or the fee increases. They also are clear that at you have to pay the difference in flight costs. However, I would be switching to a cheaper flight, so am wondering if this results in credit. The emphasis on their website is now specific to the new three tiered system.
