Experience with infrared space heaters?

I'm looking for a safe way to add extra heat to our playroom, which is actually a converted two-car garage. The previous owners of our house finished off the room nicely, but only put one heat vent, which isn't enough for this 16x20 room. The room winds up being about 5 degrees colder than the rest of the house, and I don't want to crank up the heat for the entire house just to bring that room up a bit. On the flip side, I'm not comfortable putting a conventional electric-coil space heater in there, since the kids are usually in there unattended (not to mention how inefficient those heaters are).

In doing research online, I came across infrared heaters, like those from EdenPURE (http://www.edenpurestore.com/home) and ComfortZone
(http://www.czinfrared.com/). They seem too good to be true-not hot to the touch, 90% efficient, no fire hazard, no fumes, etc. But the only testimonials I can find are on sponsored sites, which makes me leery. Any opinions from real-world users are appreciated.

Thanks!

I would love to know too. Our playroom is in our finished basement but it is always chilly down there. A "kid safe" heater would be wonderful.

We had an Edenpure and it did not work at all. We have a 20x20 Fl room that we heat with a natural gas heater but I was looking for something we could leave on and not worry about oxygen depletion or fire. It barely heated a 3 foot area, let alone a 400 sq ft room as they claim.

They were good about refunding our money but unless we had the odd lemon, I would waste my money.

We have an edenpure signature series for our bonus room above the garage. The room does have heat vents, but like you, it's always 5 or so degrees cooler.

It truly is as good as they claim it is. We have it in the corner of the room which is surrounded by kids toys. The toy chest is literally about 2 feet away from it on one side and we have an easel on the other side of it. There are constantly dolls or children's books or whatever laying on top of it and it is truly not an issue. There is no heat to the touch issues.

It heats the room nicely and even find that I have to keep it set on mid level not full blast as the room will get too hot. It is a moist heat as they say. This heater doesn't sap all of the moisture out of the air like a typical heater would. It's also on rollers so in the spring, I just wind the extension cord on the back and roll it in the storage are we have in the room.

Bottom line is we love the heater, it has been exactly what we wanted for the room. I have no issues with our daughter being in the room with the heater on.

Let me know if there's anything else you need answered.
