I did 20 miles on Sunday. In parts, 4 miles then later 11 miles and then later again another 5miles.
I was fine. But after I came home from the 5 miles I did some laundry and shortly after sat on the bed and ate something and that's when the cramp came..it was about 20 minuets or so after I finished. This turned into swelling. I took a hot shower and propped the leg up. The swelling and pain left by the am.

Here is what I did prior...but reading on this, there doesn't seem to be a connection.

I wore a knee brace on my right leg...I always do on a long distance because I have knee pain on occasion. I read that the cramp can come from lack of blood flow and thought perhaps the brace did that. Saying that though, I wore this very same brace during the whole Goofy challenge and never experienced any cramping.

It is the longest distance I have done since the Goofy challenge this past January. Aside, I have done a few half marathons, so 13.1 miles is the longest I have done since January.

I hadn't been drinking a lot of water. I know I was dehydrated. I didn't read anywhere that that can cause this. However I did drink a lot of water since.

I didnt' sleep very well the last few nights prior. However I discount that because during marathon weekend in Disney in January I barely slept at all. I was working off very little sleep.

So it concerns me because this is something I have never had before. Even in hs when I was on the track team. I cannot think of a time where I had experienced a calf cramp from running/walking or jogging.

Any thoughts?

I'm wanting to follow this thread. I'm in my last 2 weeks of training for the Disney Wine & Dine. I'm tapering having run the full 13.1 miles two weeks ago, 10.5 last weekend.

Just last night, I'm having some calf pain, sort of like what you are describing. It was even radiating into my heel. Coach wondered if it might be achilles tendonitis. The calf pain is a higher calf pain, rather than lower.

The only thing that I can attribute mine to was poor post-run stretching after I got caught in a downpour during a 3-mile run last Thursday. That run was also pretty strenous/peak exertion level.

I also wore heeled boots all weekend. Have you done anything silly-stupid-trendy like that? (didn't read if you are Male/Female). I'm wearing flat shoes as much as I can from now until the Wine & Dine. I've put too much training and heart into this race to throw it all away because of cute fall boots.

Hope you feel better soon!

I am female. My calf pain was in the upper area too. I never had it before and it came after I finished. I too did not stretch which might have been a factor. However there were other times I didn't stretch and that never happened.
I was wearing my good sneakers all day and prior to that didn't wear anything on my feet that was other than sneakers.
My guess , and I think it might be it but don't know is that I wasn't hydrated. Though no where did I read that lack of water might attribute to calf pain, which was followed by swelling.
I did the Goofy this year and that didn't happen.
Today I just walked 5 miles and right now I feel fine...this happened on Sunday and I did not do anything yesterday (though I wanted to) I just wanted to rest it.
Strange.
Maybe someone out there has a clue about this.
