Expensive fares Syracuse to Orlando!

I'm kind of surprised at how much the fares are from SYR to MCO during the "winter break" week of 2/15/04 thru 2/21/04.

This past April (week before Easter) 4 of us flew in for a 5 night stay for less than $1,000. Now, the best I can do for 3 is $900 during this February 2004 week.

Can anyone report if the fares will drop as we get closer to the end of the year and more airlines publish their fares?

We were hoping to fly out of Rochester NY (1 1/2 hours from Syracuse) on AirTran - direct 2.5 hour flights, but they have been holding out on publishing their Feb 2004 fares/schedules. Their January rates are $59 one way!!!!! with decent departure/arrival times.

Trans-Meridian - new carrier in Syracuse, offering direct flights to Orlando can't keep their website up long enough to do some option searching - suppose I could call them!

Just venting.....

Hi.
I'm also in Syracuse and understand the flying cost oh to well. I right now have tickets for Oct23 returning Nov2 at $221.50 per person round trip on Delta. I have almost never gotten much below $200 even when Metrojet was flying from here to MCO. I also have tickets for May 13-19,2004 out of Rochester for $130 per person round trip so they extra 90 miles is worth it.. When booking for next May I looked at SYR and ROC and SYR was $260 per person so even with the cost of parking at ROC for a week ($45 at A&M Parking) I am still saving about $200

The Post-Standard had an article about a week ago about the average cost on Trans-Meridan being $228-258 so if your lucky enough to get the flight for $59 one way plus the taxes it is close to ROC cost but then you fly into Sandford and any type of shuttle wipes away any money you might of saved. Rental cars are higher out of Sandford and so is Mears and yourride towncars
So much for Mayor Driscoll helping us out....
bring in small company and advertise direct flight to Orlando and then tell us it is Sandford airport.

I don't think you will see prices drop because of Trans Meridan. The flight I have for October I booked last Dec 24,2002 and the price is now at $365 per person I will watch it to see if as time gets closer it will drop anymore but I know the return flight is almost full on Nov 2 Sunday.
Give Delta a try out ofROC for your dates not direct flight but I have about 60 minute layovers.

Good luck.

We are flying out of Syracuse for $800 for 4 of us, taxes included in Nov. with US airways.

We live in Ontario and the cost of our flight out of Ottawa would have been more than double. So flying out of Syracuse is cheap for us.

Did you check to see what the return flight from Orlando to Rochester flying Airtran would cost?
I checked flights in Nov. from Rochester to Orlando with Airtran and the departure was $59 but the return flight was $175. The total roundtrip cost was more than flying out of Syracuse. Also there were no direct flights.
