I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it when it was completely functional. It was very impressive. In the meantime, we will have to settle for Disco Yeti.

I first became familiar with the "Disco Yeti" name when I went on EE in 2011.

When we got off the ride I asked my sister, "Was that shadow animation the Yeti? I thought it was supposed to be huge?"

I literally didn't even see the stationary Yeti last time lol I don't know what happened!

Went on this site that same night and read about the structural issues and "Disco Yeti" mode.

I'm going to pay much closer attention this April!

I was there in February 2007 and I thought I saw the fully functioning Yeti, but now I'm not so sure. I remember being very impressed with it, though, and I'm not sure I would be so impressed with strobe lights.

Joe Rhode recently said that the intent is to fix it. I would guess within 1+ year of Avatar opening.

No. I remember it specifically. It was definitely working just as I in footage I had seen. This is why I was so disappointed in 2010 and 2012. I can barely even spot the "disco Yeti.)

Now, Expedition Everest is actually 3 separate structures. The Yeti, the Coaster, and the Mountain are all independent of each other. To fix the Yeti Disney has to remove the track around the mountain and part of the mountain itself to even get to the Yeti.

I don't care if EE is one structure or ten. Fix it. It's their own fault if they designed the Yeti as a lynchpin. Did they think they'd never have to access it again? Fix it.

So take the ride down for 9 months to fix a 2 second thrill that doesn't really impact the rider experience unless they're specifically looking for it? Yep that's a great idea...

I've seen all three modes, the last trip she wasn't even disco dancin', she was in the dark. Having seen all three modes, if someone never saw her original movement, the disco version would still be impressive just because of the moving fur and detail, which I believe is resulting in people thinking they've seen her in her original state when they haven't.

The vids on youtube are cool, but there's no way you can really tell what she was like unless you were one of the blessed ones that got to see Yeti get her Yeti on. lol I also think they won't fix her til Avatarland is in full swing.

They were going to fix it, but Disney surveys said guests would prefer they invest in MDE and FP+ instead.

I didn't even know yeti was broken. Rode in fall 2006 and not since; my oldest was born in'07. Well maybe on the bright side disco yeti won't be as scary for her if she can ride this year.

The huge animatronic Yeti took a big swipe at you as you passed under it going through a dark cave?

Or the little shadow Yeti tore up the tracks in an animation while you waited for the track to switch back to forward motion?

The second one I will believe.

One of our dear friends has a job at WDW overseeing the building projects at MK and DS. If a wall is up at either of those parks, it's his baby to manage.

And I can tell you he thanks his lucky stars he does NOT have to deal with AK simply because, one day, the decree will come down that that damn Yeti foundation has to be fixed.

According to him, the general reports from guests are that, for that brief second or two, they really believe he's functional thanks to some well placed fans and lighting, which makes the incredible cost of actually fixing him very low on the radar and high on the PiTA scale when it does happen. That pushes it way back.

From my video above, even slowing it down for that split second, when he swipes at us is barely catch-able on a speeding coaster.

Ummm...The entire attraction is about the yeti. Everything from the moment you step into the ride que through the ride itself is about encountering the yeti. When the yeti is fully operational, you don't have to be looking for it... Actually, you can't miss it. When the yeti is fully operational, she/he is brightly lit and making large sweeping movements. You can feel the air move above your head after the yeti takes a swipe at you. It is a very impressive effect and an exciting climax to this attraction... When it is working.

It is worth 9 months of downtime to fix it in my opinion.

It’s possible, but unlikely. The Yeti has not been in A mode from day-to-day since the end of 2006. They did turn it on a few times here and there until 2008 but it’s never once been in A mode since January 1, 2009 (I’m not sure the exact date they stopped A mode tests in 2008).

What you saw was not A mode. I’m sure you saw the shadow image of the Yeti on the wall and the shadow image moved, I’m sure you saw the Yeti animatronic in the cave, and maybe you saw it’s fur rippling in the breeze of the giant industrial fan, but you did not see the Yeti animatronic move. That would have been impossible.

Thanks, I didn’t write the song, though. I found it on youtube. There used to be an awesome video where the song was played to clips of Disney and other pop culture clips but it got shut down. Disney probably complained. But you can find the song with just the lyrics being sung on youtube.
