Expedition Everest to close to fix the Yeti?

I thought I saw a show (behind the scenes) where they said they would have to take down a huge chunk of the mountain to be able to try & fix the yeti. That was the reason it's stayed broken for so long (cost & length of time it would take). I could be wrong.[/

What I heard also. The guy who designed it and other engineers were saying when the 25 ft Yeti swung forward toward the ride vehicles, he would pull on the mountain at the same time. That was putting a constant strain on EE and they would have to shut down the entire mountain to fix everything proper.

I saw that doc on the yeti as well, the problem with the yetti it was causing stress on the whole mountain and the only way to fix it was to rebuild most of the mountain.

By "fix" I assume they mean they will cover the Yeti with a big projection screen and just have a CGI Yeti from now on. A lot fewer moving parts and maintenance costs to worry about than if they really truly fixed him (or more specifically fixed his foundation).

Of course, either way we will have tons of folks lamenting the loss of Disco Yeti and demanding his return for nostalgia sake.

Ain't that the truth. No matter what, they won't please everyone, someone will complain.

I rode EE in 2007, and it was the most awesome themed coaster I've ever experienced. The yeti was still working, and it was incredible seeing that beast try to grab us as we passed by. I say fix the ride, bring it back to its former glory! A six month layoff is a small price to pay.

I wouldn't mind a projection Yeti if it was a great visual effect. But nothing can top the original AA.

I didn't even know there was a mannequin yeti there. I only saw the shadow. Guess I had my eyes closed?

It's on the right soon after the shadow. It's in a cave so unless you are looking right its easy to miss. Especially if you're sitting on the left.

Yeah, and it has a strobe light on it, hence the term "disco yeti." It's basically the climax of the ride, and more anti-climatic than in the past.
