Expedition Everest (The Backwards part)

Just rode it last week. I was SO nervous as I approached the ride that I had tears welling up in my eyes. The ride itself was not terrible. But I did get a big woozy feeling in my tummy as we went backwards in the dark and then up hill and came to a stop. Made me a little dizzy. The drop was not nearly as bad as it looked. It was very steep but over so fast I didn't notice and I HATE drops!

Can anyone tell me how it compares to Mummy ride at US? It goes backwards for a bit also and I am fine on it. If anyone has ridden both and could compare them I sure would appreciate it.

We went to Uni September of 2006, and it was DEAD!!! I mean DEAD! We rode The Mummy 3 times in a row. Then came back again later and rode in twice in a row. I was fine. I was better then fine... I rode 3 times in a row!

Everest had me back at the room *when I rode in the back*. I had to sleep until that evening (also keep in mind, it was so hot, and that was our first full park day after a long drive from Chicago.....which could have added to the yucky feeling)

When I rode in the middle of the train - I wouldnt be able to go back to back (like I did on Mummy) however, I was okay.

Self proclaimed wimp. Rode the Mummy and didn't love it..but I didn't emerge feeling sick either.

Rode EE and thought I might hurl. It took a while to feel normal again. These rides usually don't bother my stomach as much as they give me a headache! Anyone else have that problem?

True 'dat!!!! :headache:

comparing the backwards sections of mummy and EE is comparing apples and oranges. On mummy its a very small drop going backwards - done in a couple seconds. EE's is much longer - I think its fine AS LONG AS you are not prone to motion sickness. I can't ride EE more than 2x in a row b/c of the backwards part.I would still try it out once and see how you feel, but I have to say I thought there were be more people voiceing how its gets to them on this.

My 60 yr. old mother rode it and my 7 year old dd comforted her. YOU CAN DO IT. No regrets.:thumbsup2

I like both coasters and the main differences are:

1.) ROTM is totally indoors...some people don't like dark coasters.
2.) Everest is much longer and smoother.
3.) ROTM is more intense because of the higher speed and launch.
4.) ROTM has a very short backward section that puts you on the turntable and then up the launch hill.

It's two different experiences but I think Everest is much easier to ride if you aren't a complete coaster nut.

I'll have to be the lone voice of dissent I guess! I am sort of a rollercoaster wimp, but I do okay on BTMRR and I kept reading how great and smooth EE was, so I gave it a try last visit. Never again! it scared me to death and it really felt like we went upside down. I'm sure that ride is nothing if you love rollercoasters, but it was way too intense for me.
I'm not a rollercoaster lover by any stretch...WDW is the only place where I make myself try new things and I think EE is not that bad. But, I do think that people who get motion sick should maybe take some Dramamine beforehand.

I rode both EE and The Mummy in July. I think EE jerks you around a lot. The Mummy was smoother. I was afraid to go on EE, but I do love coasters. The drop was wimpy. The backwards part was OK, but now that I know it is coming, it will be OK the next time. You know it is coming when you come to a stop after you arrive at some twisted broken tracks. The only thing that scared me about EE was I didn't know what to expect. After it was done, I thought it was a pretty easy ride. The Mummy was pretty easy too, there is one little stretch where you go pretty fast though.

I get scared on all the 'mountains' but I go on them for my kids and end up having a great time. That being said I feel the backwards part of Everest is way worse than the hill. The part where it goes up feels to me like I'm coming out of my seat and my stomach goes every time and I have to sceam. Everest is quite fast too in many parts and I can see how people with motion sickness may have issues. The hill kind of twists so my stomach doesn't go at all there. I find the Mummy less intense than Everest and my stomach only goes for a brief second on the Mummy. Going on Everest the first time is the hardest but if you can get someone to go on with you and tell you what is happening and when to expect the backwards part I think it would be fine! I always enjoy Everest more the second time I ride and remember what happens - I even open my eyes!

I am also a RR wimp! My DH had to ride EE first to make sure I wouldn't freak out on it. On our trip in 06 he convinced me to ride Soarin (which I did NOT know lifted you up to the roof!) so naturally I freaked out. The 70 yr old man next to me comfoted me the whole time because I was in tears :lmao: Then he immediately took me on Mission to Mars...the INTENSE version! OMG I thought I was gonna die! DH had to get me a mickey premium and take me on Figment to calm me down. But EE is not bad at all!!!!! The only part is yeah the backwards part does get me a little sick. But I haven't ridden in the back...been in the 2nd car and the middle...awesome view when you stop where the tracks are "broken" I wouldn't ride in the first car though because I would freak out at the top I think. The second time I kept me eyes open and yelled really loud and that helped me not to get sick. They tell you that on mission to mars, not to close your eyes even if you get sick cuz it makes you sicker. So I really think that helps on EE. Also the drop is really not bad...just super fun!!!!

I have to say I am not with the majority on this one. The backwards part escpecially inside the mountain in the dark realy did me in! I had a terrible sensation that my head would hit when going backwards into the mountain tunnel! Yes I am a wimp! I did EE our 1st trip in Sept 2006 and I have never been back on. But I am so glad and proud to say that I did do it once!

I also did "loose my lunch" when the ride was over too!

I guess this one you will just have to ride it and gauge for yourself. I am a big coaster enthusiast, and I love thrill rides. However, I do have issues with going backwards and getting sick. With that being said, I asked a bunch of people in the park, "what did you think of the backwards part?" Almost every person getting off said...ahhh its not bad, its only a few seconds. So....I trusted that it wouldn't be that bad. I was soooooo sick/nauseated after getting off the ride, I wished I could've thrown up, just to get rid of the feeling. The next time I returned, I took two Dramamine and didn't have an issue at all. My advice is that if you have issues going in circles or going backwards in the past, self-medicate! haha Enjoy your trip!!

I am not a big fan of rollercoasters, but my grown kids talked me into it. I screamed like a baby on the backwards part. I think that is why I did not like it so much. I was way to tense and screaming to enjoy it! LOL! Will I ever do it again? YEA!

Wow, a lot of mixed answers. Seems like a few people view the backwards part of EE to be sickening and/or intense. And others say its nothing and/or it's fun. I guess you have to just go and make your own conclusions.

Ya, that's what I'm afraid of

I love Everest and have ridden it a handful of times, but I find the backwards section to be pretty intense! Personally, I think the reversed pressure it puts on your body combined with the darkness gives the sensation of going through a loop. My mom was actually convinced that we HAD gone through a loop until I assured her we didn't. ;) Great ride, even though the backwards part always makes me a little nervous! :thumbsup2

Last trip, my DS9 got soooo sick on Mission Space that we had to go back to the room for 4 hours! He had no problems on Splash Mt., Big Thunder, or Tower of Terror. He wants to try Space MT., Expedition Ev. and Dinosaur when we head back in Feb., but now I'm worried about his stomach. What is the sickness factor on these compared to Mission Space?

I second that. lol

The Mummy Is a wimp coaster compared to EE. The mummy goes backwards fast but No serious G forces however in the back of EE you can get major airtime coming down that steep drop and going backwards on a curve which causes many g's you can feel your weight double by being pulled in the seat sorta like Mission Space Orange but a little more intense... first timers should ride the middle or 2 -3 rows from the front. dont ride the back rows the forces are much stronger.

EE and RnRc Awesome !

Coasters need shoulder restraints to go though loops.. :thumbsup2

I have lots of problems with motion sickness and I found that if I keep my eyes open, this is actually a really fun part of the ride!!

I'm not the one to ride big coasters or even the tower of terror, but I absolutely love EE. It does feel a little weird going backwards, but it's soooo much fun. Now, if I ride it twice in a row, I do feel slightly dizzy.
