Expedition Everest Question

And that's the one thing people don't understand about Expedition Everest. From the outside, it looks like you just go up the incline and then plunge right back down since the downward thing is right next door. I've done the single riders line here often and will sometimes get someone who has never ridden it. That's the most fun. I had one guy (a little younger than me and I'm 53) who was a first timer. He was tense going up and then grabbed the bars for what he thought would be a quick way down. You should have heard his cries of delight with everything on inside the mountain. He yelled "no way! how are we going to get out of here?!" when he saw the broken track and then more cries of delight at the backwards part. He beamed when the ride was over and told me he was going on it again.

I had no clue, I wish my family would have told me this, I just assumed it had a big drop and I hate drops. I won't do splash mountain because of the drop.

Do you know if rockin roller coaster is similar? Or does it have a big drop?

RNR is a lot of step bends but it's also the only disney coaster that goes upside down. It's in a darker (not space mountain dark) building so it's easy to be disoriented and not realize your upside down. It's also a launch start so no hill to click up, you go from standing still to full speed really fast. http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions...n-roller-coaster-construction-photos/5007.htm is a construction picture just after the track was finished and then the building was put up around it.

I finally got up the nerve to do EE this year. OP, it is much smoother than BTMRR. I keep saying "it was super-scary but kind of fun," but the farther I get from the last trip and the closer I get to the next, the more I think I might do it again! The backwards part wasn't as awful as I feared; scariest to me was/is anything in the dark. I don't like not being able to see what's going on/what's coming.

My main reaction is, unless you have some physical issue (motion sickness, etc.) go for it! If I can do it, so can you!

There are no gigantic drops, like other rollercoasters, and no inversions, but it is a rollercoaster with some smaller drops and lots of fast turns. It is relatively smooth. If I remember correctly, you come to a stop at the simulated broken track and then go backwards in the dark, stop again, and then resume going forwards. There are 2 "Y"s with switches very much like on a railroad that allow for the change in direction. If high long drops are your only issue, this won't be bad. It is also less "rough" feeling than something like Thunder mountain. But there will be lots of tight turns. My favorite part is that first backwards twisting corkscrew turn in the dark. That is fun and makes the stomach twirl a bit. First time I thought it might be upside down but it isn't.

The only way to know is to do it at least once. Or you could watch a YouTube video of the ride. I would suggest not watching the video and just riding it once.

Also, it is worth riding at least once in the regular non-FP line just to enjoy the magnificent theming of the line. There are many actual items from Nepal and even actual climbing paraphernalia cleaned up from mount Everest. Lots of information about the country, the mountains, and climbing Everest. It is probably one of my favorite ride lines.

Thanks for this reply. I've done Space Mountain (grew up going on it) and I love Big Thunder so sounds like I will enjoy RNR too.

I finally got up the courage to ride EE a few months ago. I didn't like Space, I've never done Splash because of the drop, but I really wanted to see the theming of EE. I'd seen the YouTube videos, but like you said, it's really hard to figure out what's going on in the dark. DH's limit is BTMR and refused to go, so I went single rider.. So I was nervous AND alone in line. Luckily it wasn't long. The woman I was sat with (in the back row) was wonderful. We chatted about how it was my first time, and she'd done it several times, reassuring me that it wasn't that bad. And it wasn't. I loved it! The backwards part really just felt sort of weird, and was over quickly. The rest was just fun, and the view is amazing.

Now I need to talk DH into going back to AK so I can do it again :) Anyone know if there is a chicken exit? I'd like to go through the whole queue, but don't want to keep DH waiting for an hour.. plus he would probably like the queue. lol

I agree. I watched Expedition Everest going up for almost three years as we were frequently visitors then. We had my son and daughter-in-law and grandkid on one trip and I told my daughter-in-law that there was no way in heck (well, another word) I would be going on it because the only things I cold see were the incline up and the ride down. My very smart daughter-in-law replied, "how do you know what it's going to be like unless you do it? Because only you can decide if you like it or not". I rode the first time cussing her out on the way up and then phoning her at the end to thank her for "making" me do it.
