Expedition Everest Challenge Blog

I enjoyed your write up. I was going to leave a comment on the blog, but seems like I need a separate account?

Anyway, since it seems like you have some insider knowledge... Do you know if the format of the scavenger hunt is changing this year? On the Disney website it mentions something about getting your passport stamped. The website also mentions that the scavenger hunt will be finishing in the parking lot, but I haven't seen a new map to support that or the change to the 5k.

I hope Disney starts releasing some information soon. Only 5 weeks to go!

Hi There, thanks for reading. You can use your DIS username and password to leave a comment on the blog.

Anyhow, I was told the scavenger hunt will be the same as last year. It will go through 4 different areas of AK: Discovery Island, Africa, Asia, and then Expedition Everest. They said the only difference would be all new clues. I was also told that the race would end in Dinoland USA. So it didn't sound like it was ending in the parking lot. I was told the 5k wouldn't go through Dinoland USA this year so as not to interfere with people that were finishing the scavenger hunt.

I bet the thing about getting your passport stamped was the final check of the passport at the end.

I hope that helps.

Great blog! I talked Dh into doing this and I really think he will have fun, especially after reading your blog.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. I'd do this race again in a heartbeat if I could get down to Florida then.

I read this the other day, and it sounds like a great time. I would love to do this race, but am going to do the ToT instead.

I think that's a good decision. Especially since this is the last year for the ToT13k. I'm trying to see if I can get down there for ToT myself.

We are doing the EE5k for the first time ever. My dh and I. I have two very bad knees and was wondering if there is someone I could contact or speak to to see if I could possibly get into one of the first waves that start. I am not trying to cheat anyone out of a spot or anything I just think the more time I can get the better. I am hoping not to be the very last person to cross the finish line.

If anyone has any ideas of where to call or who to try to contact it would be great. I am getting really nervous and am starting to wonder if I made a mistake by registering and now dragging my hubby with me lol

My response is - try not to worry. My guess is that they are not going to move you up into the first couple of waves. The first wave is solo runners, and the second wave was the men's teams (I think). Disney's thought is that these runners are slightly faster, and they want to try to let them out in front. As long as you can maintain a brisk walking pace, you should be fine on the course. There were lots of people walking when I did the race last year, and I would be willing to bet you won't be the last person across the line. If you have to go slowly because of your knees, that's just more time you get to enjoy the course! Have a great time.

DH and I are planning on running in the EE5K next year (nothing like a little motivation to get back in shape post-baby ;))...so my question is: is the EE5K usually held around the same date every year? We own DVC and want to get our week reserved for this, so we were curious about the timing??? TIA!

This is only the second year for the Expedition Everest Challenge, and it has been the same weekend both years. The last weekend in September and first weekend of the Food and Wine Festival. They should announce the date for 2010's race during the 2009 race.

As I said before, I love your blog. It's helping me get DH psyched up for his first event.
A while ago there was a thread on some of the scavenger hunt clues and answers from last year. I've done a search and can't find it; can anybody help out? Since I talked DH into participating in this event with me, I would like to be able to show him that thread so he will be more comfortable with that portion of the race.
Can you believe it's less than 4 weeks!!! Wahoo!

Thanks for the great blog! A friend and I are heading down to do this race and it was fun to read your first hand experience. I just shared the link with her.

I just saw the EE5k medal. It looks cool. Does anyone know if it opens up to a compass like last years or was that just he inaugaral one from last year? Just wondering?????
