ok, simple question. For those of you who have been on Expedition Everest how is the backwards portion of the ride??? Does it have a steep incline? Does it move real fast? is it completely dark? Also the first drop. I know it says its a large drop but it turns does it seem steep, like splash mountain? Thanks!

The backward portion of EE is a downward 540 degree helix in complete darkness - it's not a plunge, but it's very fun! I don't consider Splash to be steep, but the big drop on EE is steep, fast and fun!

If you're concerned, my best advice to mitigate the foces is to sit somewhere in the middle. It's a great ride.

Going backwards is fast. It makes your head go against the headrest & it is in the dark but it go so fast-it doesn't last long. The drop does not seem as steep as SM because you are also going into a turn. It is a great ride!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I HATE roller coasters but was able to handle Everest & thought it was fun. The backwards part is a little nauseating if you're easily affected by rides but not terribly (I still wouldn't do it on a full stomach). My kids & I all thought it felt like we were going upside down in the dark but know we didn't.

The biggest drop, to my recollection, actually comes later in the ride - after the dark part. It's big but not very big ... not as big as SM, IMO.

Be sure to look up for the animatronic (sp?) Yeti at the end!

I'd say the most disorienting part of the backward portion of EE is the darkness. But when you stop for the Yeti shadow! WOW!

That is one awesome attraction. Not to be missed.

We just returned form WDW and loved EE. My big boys, Dh, and I rode EE 2 times on Tuesday, 9/5. The weather was great ( hot ) and clear. The backwards portion was very smooth. I have neck injuries from going through a windshield face first some years ago but suffererd no problems from riding. I will say that I lost all my air to scream near the end and just thought how much longer can this go on????- I have asthma and was worried that I might have an attack after the drop but I was just fine. I didn't notice any twists or turns - to me it felt like a straight drop- the biggest one I had ever been on according to my breathlessness factor! Silly us, we asked to be in the front of the coaster never thinking that we would be on the end during the drop- makes all the difference in how smooth the ride is. Oh and you can't see the drop so no steepness awareness to be had- you just kind free fall through the pitch dark air and enjoy yourself! :woohoo:

Going backwards was my favorite part of the ride. I thought it was fun to go into the helix backwards in the dark.

I've been wondering about this, too, since motion sickness can be a real issue for me. Can someone give me an idea about how long the backwards portion lasts?? Are we talking 10-15 seconds . . . . . more?? . . . . . less??

The cm said to count to 20 and the drop would be over- I started to count but forgot to keep counting when we reached warp speed :lmao: ! Beam me up, Scotty!

I have several herniated cervical discs that have presented difficulty on different rides. I hate The Mummy ride, was able to ride Mission space (but now ride the alternate version) & have problems w/space mt. because I can't see the drops to brace myself, etc.

Must say the backwards portion was no big deal IMO, rode it several times & wish we could have several additional times...really, a fun ride.

Sortof embarrassing the one time I rode with a nice older lady...who didn't hold on the entire time:confused3 , I always scream like a girl on drops.;)

OK, I'm going to do my best here...
how is the backwards portion of the ride???fun

Does it have a steep incline? not really

Does it move real fast? I dunno. Fast enough, but not make you dizzy fast

is it completely dark? Not pitch black - i think you might even by outside for part of it. I just don't remember exactly...Sorry, didn't know there would be a pop quiz! :) There are videos of it on the internet. If you search, you might be able to find one.

Also the first drop. I know it says its a large drop but it turns does it seem steep, like splash mountain? I don't think anything on the ride is super-steep...but the two rides can't really be compared.

Thanks! You're welcome.

I found the video. It looks pitch black...I don't remember it being that dark, so either the video is funky or I am (probably me!)

So glad to hear that people with neck injuries didn't have any problems on this ride, I've had my fair shares of neck injuries and with every ride or rollercoaster you always kind of worry if it will hurt your neck.

Thanks for the info everyone, can't wait to try EE on our trip.

The first time you ride, the backwards part is a bit rough. I had some trouble catching my breath until it stopped. I'd say it lasts for about 8 or 9 long seconds. My best advice: When it starts going backwards, just scream until it's over.

During the dark backward portion, you enter a helix which almos gives the feeling of an inversion, though it does not. It is dark.

CoolBeans - Love that video! Can't wait to show my DS in the morning! This is the ride he has been talking about. Now I know what to expect as well. I think I am just going to shut my eyes and scream! :rotfl:

The backward part of the ride is what will prevent me from getting on EE ever again. Had a "deep" headache for several hours after. It just goes backwards far too fast for me.
Too bad, because all the other ride aspects didn't bother me at all and the theming is excellent.

I don't like drops at all but I could handle EE no problem. The one that you see from the outside seemed to be the biggest drop. Up in the front to middle cars I didn't even feel the drop, but in the very back I could feel it a bit. I found the ride otherwise to be very smooth.
Also, in the dark parts of the ride you could look down to your left and see glimpses of stairwells or halls that were lit up to give you a better sense of where you were.

Ooh it sounds so much fun I can't wait!! :goodvibes

I'll probably throw up once I get off though :rotfl:

This left me feeling quite disoriented and with a terrible case of Vertigo. I truthfully almost passed out from the drop...the forwards drops don't do this to me. DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH!!! This can actually cause you to pass out. When I got off the ride, I thought I was Tigger, because I sure felt like I was bouncing!! :tigger:
