Expedition Everest and Dinosaur for 5 yo?

My kids rode Dinosaur for first time, DS6 and DD4 and they both were very scared, I had rode it before years ago but forgot how LOUD it is and I felt bad for the kids. About a year and half later we returned and talked them into trying it again but I brought ear plugs for all of us...what a difference! they loved it and rode it many times.

My DS5 was SO excited to go on Dinosaur he bounced all the way in there, but from the time it started he was terrified. When we got off the ride he just wanted to go home, and kept trying to leave the park. He really didn't want to go on anymore inside rides after that! :guilty:

That was our experience - ds4 (almost 5) really wanted to go on it, he was shocked coming out, and refused a lot of rides afterwards - I regret taking him on.

My dd is very adventurous. She had just turned 6 on our first trip and did many 'thrill rides' (EE had just opened, I think, and FPs were gone so we bypassed it). The only ride she has ever been afraid on was Dinosaur. Apparently, at one point, it seems as if the dinosaur is going to eat you and it's quite realistic for young kids. She was very upset by it even though she loves big roller coasters. From my experince EE might be okay (depending on how your child might feel about the whole yeti thing) but I would skip Dinosaur.

i have a short 5 year old so i cant comment on EE but he did ride and like dinosaur... just to let you know he is scarecd of the heffalumps in poohs honeypots and cries at snow whites scary adventures. but somehow he didnt think dinosaur was bad. our rule of thumb is if you are tall enough you ride.. if you dont like it you dont have to go again ( on this trip anyway) but we do work our way up to the scarier rides. goofys barnstormer before big thunder mtn. etc. my thought is it's only 5 minutes or less.. its mickey magic or pixie dust .. they'll be okay

I went on it because when I was a kid I did loved dinosaurs. Well, my eyes were shut about 25% of the time. They are big, loud, and so real looking the skin that hangs under their chin jiggles. I know they're fake, I know it's disney, but cripes they do a great job of making you think you are going to get eaten. :scared1:

I'd wait that one out for a bit yet, since you can't leave if it's terribly frightening for her. And in the dark with that much noise, it's a loooong ride.

Our 5 yr old son rode everything except RRC.
He didnt want to ride dinosaur or Everest a 2nd time.

Dinosaur is more the shock part than the physical throwing around part so alot will depend on how he scares with that one. (ETA- these are not smiley, disney Alasaurus type happy dinosaurs, this is scary, spikey, more scary jurrasic park style dinos!)

EE is just the adrenalin and you best like heights!

We took DS5 (he'll be six in march) on both and he thought they were great... he does zone out/blank out/switch off alot though when it comes to rides (he has high functioning autism & dyspraxia) so he wasn't all that clued in to the fright/adrenalin rush side of things and just took them as another ride.

DD4 (5 in march) there was not a cat in h*lls chance we were getting her on either of them but then again she didn't like big thunder mountain, space mountain, snow white or quite a few other rides either.

I felt quite safe DS5 being on the rides with us- he is tall enough and quite stockily built.

Okay I am the biggest scardy cat becuse I would not recomend those rides to a 5yr old I am beyound scared of heights so EE is out of the qustion for me and I was so scared the first time I got off dinosour that I promised myself I would not go on it again as long as I lived and yet I went right back on and I was fine but I still would not expect a 5 year old to go on it

We were just there last week with my 5 1/2 year old who is a ride scared-y cat but will ride some rides that I don't becasue of a fewar of heights.

She did not like those 2 rides (plus many more like ToT and Thunder Mountain) but LOVED Soarin and Test Track. I asked her to ride everything once that she could measure up to and who knew what she would like but her (She would not set foot on Splash or Space Mountain after Thunder, LOL).

Try them all if they are tall enough and you may be suprised too.

I don't think I could ride tot or splashmountan either but it could be due to my fear of hights

If he is okay on Space Mountain, I think he will be okay on EE. My reaction was that it was not as bad as it looked.

I think Dinosaur is scary. My DD hated it at 5, but she tried it again this year at 7. She still closed her eyes most of the time.

My DD was 4y11mo on our last trip, and insisted on riding Dinosaur. IIRC, she rode it twice and declared that was enough. We really tried to discourage her from riding, because it's so rough and loud and dark, and this was at least the 3rd trip that she was tall enough to ride. I wouldn't have taken her on it if she hadn't been insistent.

She'd have adored EE if she'd been tall enough. I'd have no hesitation about putting her on that one.

(She rides ToT and BTMRR without any problem, and dislikes Splash because she doesn't like to be wet. Too short for Space Mountain. She's dying to ride Primeval Whirl, but you have to be really, really tall for that.)

I love Dinosaur, but it is scary. I would think about taking children younger than 6 or 7 on it. EE probably depends on if they like roller coasters. It is something you should build up to though...not a first roller coaster by any means.

I really think it depends on the child. If they don't like loud noises or if you know that they scare easily, I would go from there. My youngest daughter (3) does not like loud things at all...my oldest daugter (almost 7) is a thrill seeker and doesn't mind the fast things but does spook easily. She went on Everest and loved it but only saw the shadow of the Yeti. I don't know how she would react if she'd seen the actual thing. I know that Dinosaur might not bode well for her or my youngest. My oldest was on ToT and was freaked out for 2 1/2 days afterwards. I ask my girls if they want to go on something, if they don't, then I don't make them. It's pointless and makes everyone miserable.

..the only thing I did kind of take charge of was after my oldest went on ToT, 2 days after that, she was kind of on the fence about Thunder Mtn. I knew she would like it because she's been on bigger coasters than that so I took her with me on that and she was fine. She then proceeded to go on Space Mtn 3x's!

So it's really a judgment call....

My 6 year old dd wanted to ride both of them and she wasn't quite tall enough for EE. She like Dinosaur well enough, although I didn't.....it jerks you around way way too much and it's very very LOUD. She'll be tall enough next year to ride EE and I'm so excited about that :)

For what it is worth, my 2 1/2 year old LOVED Dinosaur. He hasn't been on a ride yet that he doesn't like :)

He just made 40" this past trip (he is tall for his age) and did Dinosaur, Test Track, Splash Moutain, Soarin, Big Thunder, and Star Tours. Loved them all. He really wanted to do ToT but the line was always too long when we were near it.

If he made the height I would have taken him on EE but that one is 44". I would not do Space Mt with him yet though because of the seating arrangement. I think he would handle the ride just fine, but I still don't trust him enough to not be sitting right next to me.

I just got back with my niece (she'll be 5 tomorrow) and there's no way I would have taken her on Dinosaur (she's too short for EE). She loved Test Track, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Goofy's Barnstormer! She got halfway through the pre-show on Tower of Terror and decided she didn't want to do it. Dinosaur would have completely freaked her out and I knew I wouldn't get her on any other rides. I would wait until he's a bit older.

Sounds like he'd really like the Tricer-Spin ride. My dd rode dinosaur and she was 3, and she got off and said "Eh, I didn't like that." She didn't cry or anything but she's saying she doesn't want to do it this time, even though she loves dinosaurs.

As for everest, it's fast but I don't think it's scary. I wish my daughter were tall enough because I think she'd love it!!

Also, my nephew loves the other mountains if that gives any more insight. My sister is leaning toward holding off on Dinosaur thanks to all your input. :thumbsup2 She also says she'll likely let him watch EE first then see what he'd like to do. They're going back in April with us so he can always ride then if he wants with my DS7.:cool1:

If he is generally a gung-ho rollercoasters are great kind of kid, he should have no problem w/ EE. Yes it does go backwards in the dark, but really isn't all that bad. A little surprising the first time or two, but not too bad.

I agree w/ everyone else, Dinosaur is dark, loud and scary. Better off skipped, unless your sister is very confidant that she's explained the ride and he *still* wants to give it a go. In the ride storyline your vehicle is endagered by both catastrophic meteors and meat eating dinos that think you look pretty tasty. Very scary for smaller kids, and even some bigger kids are not too happy w/ it.

All kids are different. My very chicken 6 year old (would not even ride splash mountain!!) rode dinosaur and was not scared of it. I was more scared I was going to get thrown out of the ride than anything. As a matter of fact I was holding on to the bar and my kids so tight I didn't have time to even worry about the dinosaurs popping out at us.

I had warned my very chicken 6 year old that everyone had told me and I had read dinosaur was a very scary ride but assured him there were no big hills or anything like that. He was fine.

My friends would clasify me as a chicken and I loved Dinosour ride the 2ed time around
