WOW - maybe it's the downturn in the housing market....maybe many are fed up with poorly maintained parks and resorts or maybe we just don't have the $$$ we once had for expensive vacations......but.....

I took a peek on Expedia this morning ---- last year I kept track of what days resorts were sold out to anticipate crowds during Pop Warner and Mousefest.

This morning I searched for 12/7 - 12/14 and not only did I NOT find the resorts sold out....WDW is apparently hurting enough for reservations that they are DISCOUNTING to the public ... not just through their code system.

Examples of pricing for standard rooms.....

Values - $ 69

Moderates - $ 139

OKW - $ 180

Saratoga Springs - $ 180

On expedia they list each day so you can watch pricing and availability p/day. Last year the Saturday during Pop Warner AND Mousefest were sold out for most of the resorts.

WOW...guess things aren't as rosie as they were a year ago in the "Resort Land of the Mouse".

Expedia buys blocks of rooms so they may be having trouble selling them not Disney.

Very true and YEA - save $$$ with Expedia!

Bottom line, is, however, ....... doesn't look like WDW is anywhere near capacity these two weekends like they were last year.

We go down Thanksgiving Sunday each year and I watch like a hawk for trends beginning in early October.

Disney's bad news is our GREAT news for those trying to still afford WDW.

Are you referring to the Sunday AFTER T'giving? If so, clue me in if you hear of any discounts!!! That's when I'm booked, and at the GF, so I need any cut in price I can get for us. Even tho I'm sharing the cost with my sister!

I did a little research and many of the resorts outside WDW already have sold-out days.....Holiday Inns...Marriotts....curious.

No, I doubt Disney is wringing their hands, they have gouged enough in other places to not mind a downturn in hotel reservations until it becomes a trend.

I just don't see the downturn, tho. Someone recently posted that Disney is on it's way to a record year in attendance. Now that may just be the parks, and not the resorts, but it does speak to the fact that Disney is NOT hurting and therefore NOT getting ready to feel sorry for all us who are "owned by the Mouse" (not my original phrase, but don't you just love it?)!

Grannieminnie - I did not see any discount for the GF on Expedia, I'm sorry.

I DID forget to post the cost of a standard room at AKL is $164 on Expedia.

I cannot comment on press reports about attendance. All I see is the resorts are wide open when they were already booked this time last year.

I'm in the middle of the Annapolis Boat Shows and that is when I began last year to watch Expedia for sold-out days at WDW. I remember being surprised that the two Saturdays (during what once was a very slow time) were sold out in nearly ALL WDW resorts. To me that = crowds --- which turned out to be true during Pop Warner weekend.

I just find it curious that the WDW resorts are wide open and hotels outside the parks are already sold out for some days....not only on Expedia's site...but on the individual Hotel reservations systems - I checked Marriott, Hilton and Holiday Inn as a reference.

I was under the impression Pop Warner was the first week in Dec. this year. The first week shows alot of unavailability.

expedia is currently charging the same rates as disneyworld.com (using CCF code). i found that i actually saved more by reserving from disney directly, as expedia charged extra booking fees.

Disney Eyes -

Pop Warner will be our second weekend at WDW (first weekend of Decmeber) and yesterday it was wide open on Expedia, Orbitz and Disney.go.com reservations.

It's the weekend of 30 November - 2 December.

Last year ALL the resorts were sold out for Saturday of Pop Warner weekend. We had such a quiet visit earlier in the week and the parks were absolutely packed during Pop Warner weekend. Perhaps not at bad as the holidays but far more busy than the early part of our trip.

Thanks for the heads up! I love when Expedia offeres there Special Saver rates on Disney hotels! Last year we got CBR waterview for for $125!!

Wow, they have CSR standard for $110 12/14 -12/16. If we hadnt just moved into a new house (tons of things to buy), I would snatch that rate! LOL
